I think this would be an interesting comparison to hear more about, as the Canon 50D and Pentax K-7 are in my opinion currently the closest two cameras in this particular class when it comes to price and performance.

I agree that they are close in performance but here in the UK they are not similar in price. The K-7 is more matched to the D300 in this catagory.

Here, the 50D is $400.00 less then the K-7. The 40D is $500 less.

In Australia:
Canon 50D AUD$1548
Pentax K7 AUD$1539
Both prices body only from DCW.

K7 has video, 50D doesn't. Otherwise very comparable cameras.

Wait until they do a closer comparison between the K-7 and the EOS 7D at 18mp, 8fps and HD video. At $1699USD it should be a killer of a camera...a killer to the D300S that is.

I've seen articulated viewscreen in the 7D specs

And dual digic processors too. Set to announce September 1st:

2009 August

26th A bit more info we just received:

Next week is the launch of a new 'semi-pro' crop camera.

xD Design aims were:

Speed of readout from sensor - FPS, potentially fastest FPS in current DSLR market.
Dual DiGIC Processor and Dual Card
HD Video
Flip screen [sic.]
Low noise, not more MP
5D2 style weather sealing (no 1 series type yet)
Pro level AF - a preview of the new AF technology in next year's 1D Mk4
Significantly improved liveview AF

Market segment

Targeted at sports, bird and wildlife photographers
Intended to be both taken seriously by sports and wildlife photographers and as 'Aspirational model' for semi-pros
Look for a series of sports and wildlife photographers / testers who have tried it. Expect numerous testimonials for the camera.
Providing a 'step up' for current xxD photographers

Info at:

Canon Rumours including the EOS 7D DSLR camera

The mag. is "Photography Monthly", Aug., 2009. They compared it to the Canon 50D and Nikon D300. If I can get somebody in this forum to let me know about the legality of it, I can scan the article and post a link to view it.

whew - I can ignore it then...I'm none of the above, and anything but "aspirational."

Where did you get the $1699 USD release price for the 7D?

Do you mean the 7D and not the D300?

The K-7 will cost as much as a D300 and 50D here by christmas more than likely. Or be very close.

Its still great to see the K-7 getting rave reviews.

Now I read that Canon may release both the Canon 60D and the Canon 7D? Holy cow, how many camera models does one company need?

Shades of GM ...could we be seeing the beginning of the decline of Canon?
