Samsung, you have a long and winding road...

Panasonic G-1/GH-1/GF-1
Sigma DP-1/DP2
Leica X1

And you waiting to take off... you should start to design new models...

IMO the real danger (and the standard setter) in this class of cameras and not only to Samsung but for any other camera company that will join the fray. Pana has the technical prowess, financial means and lots of experience in photo and video cameras. Plus their cameras are among the best when q.c. is concerned. Last but not least they are one of the very few that can make any single part of a camera if they chose to.

Sigma DP-1/DP2

The first is snail slow, the second turtle slow hopefully the next one will be only sloth slow. The sole reason to exist for any Sigma camera is the Foveon sensor which held a lot of promise in the early days of digital imagery and it is still competitive for certain applications. The bonus in buying a Sigma camera is the opportunity to witness first hand new q.c. and or technical problems previously unknown to mankind (or long forgotten).

Leica X1

Too few information at the moment but this looks on paper like a fine camera for a specialized usage and people who can afford it. If Leica will maintain its policy of same price worldwide the X1 will be only twice as expensive as the Sigma DP2 in Europe. And it comes with a 200+ Euro bonus in the form of Lightroom.

And you waiting to take off... you should start to design new models...
I think Samsung grossly underestimated what they need to make more than a point and shot camera. And they permanently lacked focus about the final target last year they talked about being in top 3 of dslr makers, today they want to make a micro hybrid with 20% market share, and I think that a flop with this project will set them back even further.

Samsung has been amazingly random with regard to its cameras. At least with Pentax, I can see some plan. Samsung sends various signals -- they are working on full frame, they are working on the NX, etc. There seems to be no plan, other than slowly improving their sensor technology.

I think Radu pointed it out nicely, and as far as Samsung's plans, I don't think they know themselves what their plan is. It seem they change their plan everytime the sales charts change...

I think Samsung changed plans when Hoya bought Pentax. We are only seeing the changes now.

Leica has a forward step in EVIL APS-C camera and Samsung announced it 1 year ago.
What is Samsung waiting for??

Samsung has the technology in sensor, display, electronic and a lenses supply. Has many interesting camera in the market with WiFi, BlueTooth, GPS, AMOLED, 1.2M LCD, interactive menu, etc... what are they waiting for...??

The DP-1/2 are interesting cameras, now Leica launch a very similar system with a no own sensor or electronic.
What must difficult be to make a similar concept with fixed interchange lenses??

Almost 2 year from DP concept, 1 and a half year of M4/3 concept and a half year of X1 concept...

Samsung you need a better advisor and marketing team...

Sigma and Leica do not have interchangeable lens, and they are not in the same market segment.

NX would compete with Panasonic G, Olympus EP1 and entry level DSLRs.

But they have a "compact camera" with a big sensor... and that is the important thing...

Samsung has almost 2 years with a own CMOS APS-C sensor and until now hasnīt launched something and 1 year ago they announced it.

Well, KP I used to think the same but something doesn't make sense. If Samsung was holding technology from Pentax (the old one) because they knew the poor shape the company was in and hoped to absorb it in a Sony - Minolta style then they had 2 years to put that alleged technology in a DSLR of their own. In fact besides 2 sensors (or 1 and a revision who knows? :ugh Samsung in its supposed might has little to brag about.
