At least according to Douglas Coupland. From his latest book, Generation A (a near-future novel):

"He held a military-grade Pentax capable of snapping three hundred 2-gig photos per second".
Well, my joke has already been made

The serious side:

- military-grade = weather-resistant++ (France calls it "tropicalized" already): ok

- 300fps = 5x slow motion at 60fps: ok

- 2GP = 45,000 x 45,000 pixels (square of course) or 10x the curent resolution which is the minimum to fill all those OLED walls in your future home: ok

At 60x60mm medium format, this is a pixel pitch of 1.3 µm and actually in line with current P&S (read: feasible with respect to noise and resolution). Full frame would have pixel pitches in the order of wave length of red light (800 nm) and therefore you would require distortion-free diffraction-limited optics at f/1.0. Which makes it more expensive than its medium format cousin which only needs diffraction-limited optics at f/2.0. I see a bright future for German lens makers and deconvolution experts

So I am sure that this Generation A Pentax is medium format. Because Pentax is known to deliver most for your money.

I foresee the sweet spots for various formats as follows:
- P&S: 10 MPixel
- FT: 25 MPixel
- APS-C: 40 MPixel
- FF: 200 MPixel
- MF: 1 GPixel

Beyond its respective sweet spot, the larger format will be the cheaper option.

No, it was digital from the very beginning

Hit, Miss, Miss, Hit, Miss, Hit, Hit, Miss, Hit, ...

The only caveat: shot noise was a bit high

1 Bit only?

If I look at the picture, it seems like the camera is a M42 screwdrive Spotmatic and all the "specials" are in the lens: An optically working M42 lens with embedded gun.

Should still work ok on a K-7 with M42 adapter
May actually still be in use ...

Not interested in this until the flash sync is at least 1/250th or better yet 1/500th.

Some upgrades it needs to be any good:
1) Wifi
2) Geotagging
3) ISO 25,600 as clean as ISO400
4) built in PTT-L wireless flash with 200 meter range
5) voice navigation and recognition software.
6) built in MP3 player with 100Gb HD and stereo headphone jack WS of course
7) Cellular interface on rear touch screen LCD AKA iPhone style
8) Built in Lightroom with user programable presets for instant in camera edits
9) M, K M42 exposure linkage for accurate metering system with split screen options.

I have more Sci Fi ideas but that will do for V 1.0

I want mine with an iFlash® flatrate.

__
The iFlash® service allows the camera (using mobile internet and GPS2.0 localisation) to order an immediate flash via the internet. The flash will then be delivered to the precise second by the iFlash® service (fees may apply). The iFlash® service uses satellites high enough in orbit to be in sun light and an array of parabolic mirrors to reflect a beam of sun light to the requested positions. The scene illumination for the standard iFlash® service is 100m diameter and 1/10s length, with a request latency (mirror turn time) of 2s.

Face recognition = it would automatically recognize and shoot down known terrorists?

It's suposed to be a CIA design putting a MAC Stinger Pen Gun .22LR, or similar, inside a Pentax camera (looks like a Pentax SV or similar, pre-spotmatic). The single bullet would break the fake glass in the lens. So CIA invented the disposable camera...

Why a Pentax? A spy assasin probably wants to blend in and in those days...you know the ledgend...Pentax sold more SLRs than Canon and Nikon put together.

Anyway, it's the only "military-grade" Pentax I heard of besides a few uggly camouflagecolored P30's.

Still in use? I think they have more sophisticated methods today.
