And his site is now "private" (i.e. you have to ask to get access)...

AFAIK, that also happened during the lead-in to the K-7's launch, some time after the "Hello Mr. Blurry Cameraphone" thingy.

This time the wait is almost over anyway and the secrecy was much better guarded.

We'll see how it is priced and how it handles/shoots. I am looking for my next street cam...

Right now the GF-1 w/20mmf1.7 is top of my list as a small/light street setup. I could be swayed by a Kx that has some weather sealing and a kit with 35 or 40ltd for under $1K. What I'd really like to see is a faster DAltd prime though.

Just for referencing, hot-linked some images:

It seems to me that the RED camera has text for the lower button, in the button column at the right side of the LCD but most likely it is just the same old K-m in red.

Breaking: New Pentax K-X coming out tomorrow! | Photo Rumors

Somehow I feel most of you can understand now my past enthusiasm about this very INTERESTING entry level/mid range camera.

Please note the DA L 55-300.

Sure it's an "L"? I think they've sold the K-m in dual lens kits with the regular 55-300 in Japan.

Yes, they have and I think the success there spawn this idea. It's not the same lens and remember when one Hoya boss said "new cameras and new lenses launched at the same time"? K-7 had the twin WR kits, K-x will have DA L 55-300. the next camera ....

It's not about weight in principal it's all about making lenses with 2009 technology that are cheaper to assemble and probably have less parts. No quick shift, plastic mount etc. Reduces enough the price for that vast quantities in which they make the kit lenses.
