Yes, they have and I think the success there spawn this idea. It's not the same lens and remember when one Hoya boss said "new cameras and new lenses launched at the same time"? K-7 had the twin WR kits, K-x will have DA L 55-300. the next camera ....
It's not about weight in principal it's all about making lenses with 2009 technology that are cheaper to assemble and probably have less parts. No quick shift, plastic mount etc. Reduces enough the price for that vast quantities in which they make the kit lenses.
