If these are true, this is well above the entry level (12.9MP, 4.9 FPS, movies and live view, 11 point AF etc). Apart from sealing, this camera beats the old K200 as well.

So what will the midrange camera look like (if they even need one? Somehow I dont think they need one).

Interested to see how the sensor performs. If its a Sony model, then we know what to expect from the A700.

Expanded ISO range covers sensitivities from 100-12800? Seems like they are pretty confident in the ISO noise at least up to 3200 then.

This would be a great entry level camera. Especially with the 11 point auto focus that the k2000 lacked.

Wow, very interesting.. that would be quite interesting if it had better high iso performance than K20d/K-7 with its lower pixel density - I would want one ASAP.

I'm still waiting on these:
-release cable
-timelapse
-buffer
-stronger screw focus motor
-silent shutter

sad there is no:
-TAv
-weathersealing(I think all weathersealed bodies would be quite a statement and advertisement)
-separate AE-L button
-optical preview (for older lenses)
-larger viewfinder
-another dial

With the lack of TAv and optical preview but the inclusion of AA batteries, I am very torn between the K20d and K-x now..

They seemed to upped all the things consumers would be looking at, though.

auto picture action, tracking? holy cow!
better buffer - yep
orientation sensor - ?
selectable AF point - i would assume .
4.7 FPS! 1/6000 top ss
AF light assist - still using flash
Hi-Res 3" LCD - nope
movie mode LV, - nice to have

dang,
if these specs are true and priced right, where can i place an order ?

Overall, its an upgraded K-m. I like it alot. But why would Pentax still sticks with the AA batteries. They should replace it with dedicated rechargeable battery.

Please no.

https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/713193-post66.html

Anyways, looks like they took an exact copy of the K-m and replaced some of the guts and the help button with the green button, so of course they would have AA and no weathersealing and no new buttons, and probably no cable release or AF assist lamp.

I am quite shocked at 4.7 fps, upgraded shutter, and new sensor, though, if it is real.. its a K-7 in a K-m body.

The sensor specs are a mix of A500 and D90, if they are real. 23.5 x 15.6 mm (3.66 cm²) vs 23.6 x 15.8 mm (3.72 cm²), but 6400 iso vs 12800 iso

if these specs are true, wow. sounds like one heck of an upgrade. I may have to replace my k-m with a k-x. I think this model will certainly do much better than the k-m. I think this will be another hit for Pentax. so am I to assume that at some point, we will see a K-2? its obvious at this point, that they are using old K series names. maybe we will in fact see an M series digital? very interesting stuff, and I am really liking these specs. the 12.4 CMOS sounds really interesting.

Something more.

Check out the A500 samples. You know...... the one with what looks like the same sensor.

JPG Noise: A500, A700, A900, and Dynax 7D

its on the far right and next to the A900. which it kicks its bottom.
A great sensor it looks like. Basically a rebuilt sensor.
I saw some A550 samples also that looked good. but the lower MP sensor in this case for me would be the way forward with this kind of camera. and the Samsung sensor for the higher end stuff.

EDIT
More samples. Jpeg only.

Looks very nice for entry level camera. I'm also quite curious about this 12.4 CMOS sensor!

Those sample images are looking pretty good, I wouldn't mind if it's the same sensor.

Of course, I won't complain if it's the same Sony sensor used in the D90, either, since it's a well-proven top-of-its-class performer in a lot of ways.

the 1/6000 shutter and 4.7 FPS is nice, if it's true.
that's well spec'd for an entry level.
