645D is the other one.
That was planned for 2010, I think?

And we still have that DA Super-telephoto on the roadmap...

Maybe I'm missing something here, but what's the big deal about the active AF-point indicator? When I put down my K20d and pick up my wife's K2000/K-m, I simply set the AF-point to the center and then focus and recompose as needed. Works 90% of the time for me. And with AE set to center-weighted, it ensures that my subject is in focus and properly exposed.

I don't get the hubbub.
If we have 11 AF points - we need to use it to compose the pictures.
I use very often.

And the active AF point not showing up matters how?

Well i think there is room for another camera between K-7 and K-X. I think it will have weather seals and maybe pentaprism but with single dial and and K-X sensor. Now they have WR lenses they surely need an entry level weather sealed model to capitalize on them!

full HD recording
I am thinking Pentax will put a model higher than the K-7. It explains why the K-7 "only" manages 1024p. They probably could of easily of done 1080p, but maybe they are reserving it for a higher model (correct me if there actually is a limitation in the sensor that I am not aware of).
Falk would know best, but I think they just took the burst rate of the k20D and turned it into a video mode. To do full HD would have required them to rework their sampling matrix for the K-7, which apparently uses every 6th pixel on every active row but in alternating positions. Assuming the 6-pixel sampling to be true, the camera has to read out 768 pixels from every row for 3072 rows. That is converted to a 1536 x 1024 image. Changing that up would have required some work, maybe a lot of work I don't know.

The difference between 1024 and 1080 is pretty trivial (though the difference between 1536 and 1920 isn't). Still, the true resolving power of the video modes in all these cameras is nowhere close to their advertised resolutions; no DSLR has been yet able to resolve more than around 750 horizontal lines in video testing.

I'd rather see Pentax give us something meaningful like a sharper video mode, even at a lower pixel count, rather than just stretching their pictures out to 1920 without really increasing any detail at all

I'm very careful to choose which focus point I use in order to getting the right part of the main subject in focus. I'm sure I could learn where they are, but then I would probably forget which one I used the last time and wonder why it doesn't focus on my subject. Center point and recompose is ok, but it's a step back for e.g. those K100D owners that have learned to love the SEL mode.

The Pentax K-90

For the 90th anniversary of Pentax.
The 7FPS chip from the Sony A550 14.2 CMOS (not necessarily 7fps in the Pentax)
77 zone metering
Safox VIII +
single dial
video
sealed body from the K200D
3 inch LCD with 920 pixels
Pentamirror
rotational SR
top display
AF assist light
No PC sync cable
1/6000th of a sec shutter from K-x
HDR

Oh and AF point display.

I understand there will be a model between the K-7 and the K-x. Anything above the K-7 will probably be FF but wouldn't expect anything like that anytime soon.
The next to come is the 645Digital.....

Prestige compacts

I'd really like to see a prestige compact from Pentax, along the lines of the Leica X1 (but much much cheaper).

I'm not predicting that we'll see such a thing anytime soon, mind you....

I suspect you are probably correct on this, though someone else made the point that a model between the K-x and K-7 would only rob sales from one or the other of it's siblings - and I suspect that may also be true. However, you probably need the in between model to cover the spectrum from novice, first time DSLR buyer through to the advanced user.

What I would really like to see introduced is the TC and a DA* superwide lens. I don't mind it being a prime or zoom but right now the 16-50 is as wide as the DA* series offers. A longer than 300 (400 F4.0) is also needed though I would not be a candidate for that, it is needed to complete the line up.

It's pretty easy to learn where the AF points are because of how the grid is set up. And if you use one, you're going to select it by looking at the LCD anyway. Then you look in the viewfinder. If you forget between those two actions, I don't know how you remember to turn on the camera before shooting!

IF (and that's a big if) the 645D is released in 2010, you'll likely never see one in your store or pretty much anywhere else for that matter. It will be a very limited production and well over $10k...probably closer to $15k.

Back to reality...

IMHO, it is pretty obvious:

K10D/K100D: 2 lines
K20D/K200D: 2 lines
K-7/K-x: 2 lines

There was the k110D for K10D/K100D/K110D and then there was the K100Super for K10D/K100Super/K100D.

Believe it was also the K20D/K200D/K2000.

So it seems like K-7/Kwhat/K-X would be the norm. I think there is room for a WR K-X with grip. There is a lot of range between $649.95 and $1299 to leave open. A camera sitting at $900 seems likely.

Thank you
Russell
