Me too.... DA*55 is superb lens, but now I'm looking for something near 30 mm.
FA31 is superb but expensive, FA35/2 is ok but plastic/fantastic DA35/2.8 is to dark, Sigma 30/1.4 has a poor corner....

DA*30/1.4 - my dream come true

The trouble is that hanging the DA* designation, especially on a wide fast lens, is going to push the price beyond what the FA 77mm ltd sells for.

Exactly my thoughts.

Instead of a DA*30/1.4, I'd rather have a DA30/2 WR. I.e., an inexpensive, relatively fast, weather-resistant "normal" prime. Heck, just repackage the FA35/2 as a DA WR and be done with it.

I knew this would come up...
But for many of my "fast and wide" I have found the FA35/2.0 just too slow and too narrow.
(But I will settle for a D FA31/1.8 LE WR )

(DA30/1.4 WR will be enough for much of my "wide fast sealed" shooting)

I probably would not like the price of this one

I'd almost certainly buy one of these the day it would come out.

35 mm is on the long side of normal on APS-C. Maybe what you need for street/carnival shooting is something corresponding to either a 43 mm (i.e. 28mm) or perhaps even better: Like 35 mm on FF.

I.e. what you want is a DA23/1.7 LE WR ;-)

I'd love to see them remake the A 28/2 as an FA, maybe an FA WR.
(noticing wishful thinking. OK, OK. DA. )

Something in a 28-31 sort of range, affordable, sharp, reasonably fast, (maybe a 1.8) and not too huge. (1.4's in this range tend to be pretty darn chunky.)

Something to really get people shooting Pentax. (and for me. )

I like the 43 mm equivalent, for my tastes and practicalities, it pretty much does the job of my 35 and 50 in 35mm (Neither are quite my favorite FOV: for me the 43mm equivalent does what most would do with a 35, and I like the 75, it's like an 85 for a lot of things but a bit more flexible.)

Let's not make it too hard on Pentax then

It does not really HAVE toe be DA*30/1.4.....

Just a few simple requirements:
Wider than 31mm
faster than f 1.8
sealed
preferably very high IQ although I will settle for high IQ .

Do you know that I have found the combination of f1.8 and 31 mm allows me much more than 35mm at f2?

Ideally: make a DA* 30/1.4 SDM AND a DA WR 30/1.8 or/2.

I doubt that you will see a DA prime unless in the limited series, and none of the DA limiteds are fast.

There's only one (for now) if I count correctly and it is DA14/2.8. Why not more? (yes I know, 'zoom is everything we need' hum... NOT !).

Without the * designation, that is true.

DA 14/2.8 is such a nice lens. Absurdly sharp with great contrast and color.

There is that one, but I was referring to a 30mm lens. I doubt you will see a DA WR 30 f1.8 or f2.0 ...if they do make a 30 mm prime that's faster than f2.8 it would likely be a DA* series ...and perhaps a f2 in the limited series. I don't think there is a market for fast primes in a lens grade that is designed and priced to appeal to the plebeian masses. Those folks go for zooms!
