BTW, IEC 62220-1 is a norm written by physicists to measure noise. It is applied to x-ray photography where it does really matter as increasing the luminosity is killing people ...

BTW, dynamic range and noise are closely related but one cannot
exactly be computed from the other. The reason for this is that noise isn't entirely shot noise. For shot noise only, it would be true. Also, both are meaningless measures if defined on the pixel scale.
