I think that the Voigtlander 180mm /4 would be a perfect long limited lens with autofocus.

I heard a rumor that their 75mm and the 70mm limited share an optical forumla. so who knows. But that is one sweet lens.
We already have the DA* 200mm f/2.8, a really very good lens optically.

Probably he believes that crop factor is 1,6x, and not, as correct, 1,5x.

Gee, do you need to flaunt your Canon gear here?
But I do see the urgent need for Pentax to roll out an AF 135mm pronto, hopefully in both f/1.8 and f/2.8 versions. While they are add it, how about a new 100mm f/2.
And while they're at it, how about a 200mm f/2. I don't care if it huge or expensive or ff or not. A bad-ass line up of fast, professional super sharp primes is what Pentax needs to to make people take them seriously. They're off to a good start, and I hope they keep running with it.

Yeah. 150mm diameter primes have been made in the past (like 400/2.8). Must be made again.

So, why not a 200mm f/1.4 ? THAT would make the competition turn pale
(disclaimer: I don't know if it is technically feasible)

Maybe made available to Nikonians as well with a big bold PENTAX written on the lens?

Any lens at any aperture is scientifically feasible. It's just the weight, size, image quality, and price that may be hilariously unwieldy.

Well, there is a limit if lenses become too thick. Even if you make them aspheric designs, there simply may not be enough room within the focal length to accomodate them all.

On the other hand, scaling a 50/1.4 design to 400% yields a feasible 200/1.4 design with the cost of the 400/2.8 and 25% of the resolution figures of a 50/1.4. Add some extra correction elements and it should be doable indeed.

That's what I'm talking about!! You shouldwork for Pentax. I want prime lenses so fast that if you want your subject in the frame, you have to aim where they just were.

I have to say, I am surprised no one has mentioned a 105/2.8 or faster. One of my absolute favorite lenses is the super takumar 105mm there is just something special about images from that lens. Or for that matter, why not the 85/1.8?

Correct, did the math wrong in my head with the wrong crop factor. Serves me right for discussing too many different camera bodies at once on different forums without double checking my work.

But the 200mm 2.8 is a 77mm diameter filter, while the 180mm /4 is a 49mm filter. While to DA 200 is a very nice lens, it is neither small, nor light and doesn't fit in with the "Limited" lineup.

A limited lens (DA limited I mean) isn't about sheer light but about design and small size. You won't get a 135 limited f/1.8. Between f/2.8 and f/3.5 is more realistic IMO.

DA* 135/1.8 however would be very nice, but very expensive and big.

Agreed, I would buy a limited 200 or 180 f4 if it was a small light and not insanely priced, actually that may not stop me, just slow me down

The perfect telephoto DA Limited would be to follow the design of the Pentax SMC-M 120mm f2.8.

It would be a beautifully compact carry anytime telephoto lens.
