it would be perfect if it was a f/1.4 lens.

The perfect telephoto DA Limited would be to follow the design of the Pentax SMC-M 120mm f2.8.

It would be a beautifully compact carry anytime telephoto lens.
I would buy one in a flash! Sign me up for the pre-order!

I think if they want to make a 135 Limited, they will have to go with the small and high quality option. A nice thing about a 135 is, it's for whatever reason not difficult to make in a fairly light package, even at 2.8 or that neighborhood. I never much cared for the 135mm FOV in film, (the 135 f2 was out for old Canon, nice for stage and some shows, but otherwise, less needful) . but it's a darn useful thing to have a 200mm equivalent 2.5 that can live in the same bag space as a kit lens. It's one of the freebies of a crop sensor. They may as well update the things.

If they made a big fast one, it'd be a DA*, no doubt. I bet a Limitedwill be consistent with the size factor, even if they go with a 3.5, though those usually were never much smaller than a 2.8.

I agree with you totally. In a city environment, or even in many rural environments, a 135 on a cropped sensor makes a really nice telescopic lens. I'm fortunate to have two 135 prime lenses which measure as follows:

M 135 F3.5: length from camera mount with cap = 2 3/4", abt 2 1/4" dia

A 135 F2.8: length from mount with cap = 3 1/4", abt 2 1/2"dia

Both of these lenses are very small in size compared to my Tamron 18-250. When its expanded to provide 135mm, its about 8" in length. Its usually about f6.3 when at that FL. Not an aperture that many would consider "fast"

Ah, nice. I've got one of those Takumar Bayonet 2.5s. I think they're underrated. They started slapping the Takumar name on some really crappy lenses, but this one's nice enough. All this does make me wonder if they couldn't make something super small, maybe using a rangefinder-like design. I think it's possible, with a FL that long, but I don't know if there's any drawbacks. (Maybe someone who knows more about lens design can say? )

Anyway, they're a pretty useful FL, I think, even if you don't think of yourself as a longer-lens person. The last place I lived had a lot of verticality to the terrain, and that would often mean you'd see really nice compositions where you couldn't physically approach so well, cause the ground would be dropping off before you and changing the angle and such. Would have been nice to have this, (I was still using a bridge camera for my digital. Often found myself using the reach of that little lens, there. )

All of this talk makes me want to go look for a FA 135mm.
