Pentax K-x Digital SLR Review

High iso noise looks pretty good.

It's great to see some more sample shots, but the review isn't nearly as technical as I would've hoped. Thanks for the link though, I can't wait to get this camera in a few days.

High ISO does look good in the review samples, although it would be good to see samples from low-light environments.

But so far good performance at high ISO seems to be a consistent story with the K-x, judging from this and some of the other image samples on Flickr and elsewhere. So far so good.

Looking at these Flickr shots at 6400 and 12800 ISO, I'd say the K-x well and truly clobbers the K-7 at high ISO:

PENTAX K-x TEST (KX) ISO-12800 & ISO-6400 - a set on Flickr

The images look clean, retain good detail and also manage to hold onto an OK level of dynamic range even at those ISO extremes.

I think the K-x is on my shopping list now...

Interesting.
Reading that, and judging by the comments below, seems the only major problem could be the AA batteries.
One or two comments about weather sealing, but I think it's fair to leave it off the camera. Have to make distinguishes between the K-7 and K-x.
I think it's fair to say the K-7 and K-x are aimed at different target audiences.
Looks a promising camera though. And yes, the pics do look good.

I'm starting to like it too. Especially as I can buy two Kx's for the price of one K7 (in Australia). The K7 is good, but I'm not sure it's twice as good as the Kx.

That's a very poorly written review, but man, that's the best noise performance I've ever seen in an APS-C camera.

Hey Ned Bunnell, since you're reading this: let Japan know they need to make something like a K300D that has this sensor, but in a K100D style body with weather sealing, a top LCD and AF point indicators in the viewfinder. I'd buy it. Thanks in advance.

Itīs a review written for beginners, because thatīs who the camera is aimed at. SHamre about the batteries though. The only strange thing I thought was that no weather-sealing was counted against it. The K200D was the only camera close to this class thatīs ever had weather sealing, so itīs far from standard. You can be sure in a review of a camera from any other brand it wouldnīt even be mentioned, simply because theyīve never done it.

battery comment was unclear

i think the battery comment was quite a bit vague and only serves to demerit the K-x.

the reviewer said that the camera died in 24 hours.

24 hours of what? leaving it on live view for how long? how many shots did he take? how many times w/ flash and did he chimp a lot?

I have a km/k2000 and with one set of NiZn's, i can take over 800+ shots over a period of 40 days. With lithiums, over 1200 shots. I don't have an issue with the batteries.

I could say, WOW! the batteries lasted great! 40 days! But then, 40 days of doing what?

how long does the battery of a D5000 or T1i last under the same usage conditions? Did he make a comparison ? No. So how can he jump to that conclusion that the battery is an issue?
