I had info that Pentax could launch 2 FF cameras during 2010-2011.
Lower $1500 and $2000 price.
I 've got this info 1 months ago. I don't know if it will be real.
There is also new APS-C high speed sensor.
Hoya can really offer 3 new cameras from $1300 till $2000 for the nearest 1.5 year.

But I think that Sony really has new 14.6 MP FF sensor.
The Sony fans've been talking about this sensor for 1 year.

what the heck? Sony went lower on MP? but if they could do much better than the D700 at a price of 1,000 bucks, then I would consider it. but as long as it keeps on getting it's butt kick by the k-x, forget about it. the odd thing however is that why didn't they put their new Sony sensor on their A850 but put it on Pentax instead? maybe Pentax bought the rights for that technology and Sony is just there to collect a part of their royalty?

presumably this is true, would you get the first FF dslr released or the second one?

in any case, the rumored new APS-C high speed sensor seems to be quite a kicker itself. if the new APS-C dslr has a great DR and High Noise Resolution and a great AF system (speed and spot on focus), I believe this would go down to FOV and DOF need.

What's going to happen to the DA lenses once FF comes out?

I would imagine they will go on. Every FF DSLR so far automatically "crops" the picture area when using "cropped" lenses.

FF camera release certainly wont lower the quality of exisitng glass

It's simple
they'll immediately stop taking photos ;-)

but seriously
Canon has FullFrame cameras and still makes EF-S lenses
Nikon has FullFrame cameras and still makes new crop lensens
...

Yes, but C&N don't have the more expensive DA* lineup (except maybe their ~18-50/2.8).

I think Pentax investment in the DA* and also DA ltd will take a hit if/when FF comes out. Maybe only offering really expensive glass like a ultra wide, a reallt fast 50... Combined with a compact FF camera like the K-7, it would still be reasons to still use the DA-line with it. Maybe with auto-crop, not only 1.5-crop but also 1.25 to make the most of different DA glass.

Mounting the DA lenses on a full frame body certainly won't be an issue. People have mounted nearly all of the DA lenses on film bodies to test them and they work just fine (as long as the body can control the aperture). The only question is how sharp they are at the corners and if they vignette.

Cropped sensors still have the disadvantage of long tele range at the expense of wide angle.

Adam, I think you're right about that!!

Damn!! I was thinking of buying a Kodak DCS ProSLR/n off of eBay. I'm certain the new FF Pentax will cost more than the used Kodak. But it'll be interesting to see how the new Pentax compares to the old technology of the Kodak. The big difference that I expect is, that the Kodak is completely a professional camera and built like one. I keep saying it's a tank dressed in a tux! So in reality, there's really no comparison. But it would be nice to see what kind of effort Pentax makes with a FF camera.

This is all really kind of funny. Since my biggest handheld camera to date was a Pentax 6x7! Now that was really full-frame!

Where the money is...

For me, wide-angle is of greater importance. When I had my Pentax 6x7, I made sure I got the 55mm f/3.5 with the 100mm filter. It was the lens before Pentax came out with the smaller f/4 lens design. I did a lot of shooting in New York City with that lens. No one ever stopped to question my credentials, simply because of the size of the lens. People would see that thing, and their mouths could hold the filter! But then again, who questions a man with a 6x7 in his hands?

But it was the 55mm's coverage that really mattered for me. I still prefer wides over teles. For my ME, my 28mm f/2.8 was my standard lens. I seldom shot without it. Although, lately I've also been doing a lot of tightly cropped images as well. And the most funny thing of all, is that I'm doing all of my digital shooting in Black and White. A complete reversal from my youth (in high school), when I couldn't wait to be able to afford shooting in color film. But now, I've really discovered the beauty of B&W. It challenges your vision. That's the one thing the Kodak seems to be missing. NO B&W! At least I haven't found it in the manual I've downloaded to get familiar with the camera beforehand. And I'm certain the Pentax will have B&W as a standard feature. Again being a consumer product instead of professional.
