Eh?

"At first sight, little difference between MZ-S and *ist D inside mirror box. Just a smaller mirror and missing power zoom contacts, as expected. "

Oh, and yes - Pentax definitely initially considered having a full-frame body. That's beyond question - I actually once handled it myself. That camera was the MZ-D, and was based on the MZ-S film camera body with the Philips FTF3020-C sensor from the Contax N Digital.

There are seems to be an update coming for the A900...

I read that Sony has already designed an even higher resolution FF sensor than the one in the A900. I just hope that when they release it, the body they use will be a unitized design like the Nikon D3 and Canon professional cameras. I for one really don't want a body that comes apart. Except for the viewfinder. It would be really ironic if Sony were the one to reintroduce detachable optical viewfinders on a DSLR.

1.) How long are you willing to wait for Pentax to produce a FF camera?

You were probably distracted by the Panasonic full-frame body. And the Sigma full-frame body. Not to mention the Epson, Fujifilm, Ricoh and Samsung full-frame bodies.

/oh wait - none of those exist either
//Every one of those companies has current, upcoming, or recent (last two years or so) interchangeable-lens bodies in APS-C or near-APS-C formats, but no FF nor any suggestion of FF plans.

Indeed add the two sony full frames and one Leica

Indeed add the two sony full frames and one Leica for a total of 12 full frames from past or present.

Then let the real full frame rumors begin:

Sony A750

Canon 1Ds mark IV

Canon 5D mark III

Canon 3D

Nikon D700x

Nikon D800

and

Pentax LXD

Samsugian,

You missed the A900, and A850. The ironic thing is that the A850 has the spec's I would have expected to see on a Pentax FF, had it come out this year.

I still believe that business between Samsung and Pentax went sour, and that delayed the production of a FF pentax. I think the rejuvinated 645D development was done until Pentax could re-organise their FF development.

There is also the rumor that the Sony A750 will be full frame. Not sure if I buy into that one or not.

But as it stands, everyone but Pentax is now making multiple FF bodies. Common Pentax!!!

And Panasonic had an FX1 P&S out a while ago. Would Pentax use the same name?

1/ Shouldn't that read "End of 2010 at the very earliest" (I would be very surprised if Pentax announced a FF before Photokina 2010)?

2/Agreed on all "whish specs" but the "no flash" one.

Why? If for nothing else, onboard flash makes for an inexpensive and efficient remote flash trigger no?

No built in flash on 5D Mark II

No built in flash on 5D Mark II

No built in flash on 5D Classic

Yet D700 has built in flash. It was one of a few reasons why I bought a D700 and maybe a reason why I still pass on 5D Mark II. Well that and price after a year remains stuck at launch. I hate to pay full price for any dslr now.

I, for one, am considering a switch to Canon. Friends of mine just started up their own business, and with the clashing Pentax and Canon systems we can't work as efficiently as we could if we all had like gear. They're fully invested in Canon, having just bought a 5DII, 7D, 580 flashes for both, grips, great glass, etc...they're certainly not switching to Pentax.

Having used his 5DII at recent events...and experiencing the snappy autofocus even in low light...it has left me wanting for some kind of an upgrade from my K10D, whether it's a K20D, a K-7, or a complete system switch. I love my camera, don't get me wrong...but my lenses often hunt desperately in low light to find focus. I would love a full frame digital Pentax...but I'd sacrifice the larger sensor in a hearbeat for autofocus speed and noise levels that are on par with the competition. I'M WILLING TO PAY PENTAX...I REALLY AM!!!! I don't want to switch...but if Pentax doesn't improve in those two areas soon...I might have to.

Olympus is not based on a 135 format lens mount. Their 4/3 system is using the largest sensor that can be used. You did't "miss" it. Of all the systems, Olympus may never build a FF camera. They would need to introduce yet another mount if they were to go this route.

I'd bet Pentax doesn't take the no flash route, as they've invested a lot in the 360's and 540's wireless abilities.

Again, none of these cameras use a FF mount for their lenses.

Except for Fuji and Sigma that make DSLR's based on Nikon bodies with specialty sensors. These two could be expected to build a FF eventually. But they really are niche players. You could use these cameras as part of a system that includes a FF camera. Your Fuji "bride and groom" shooter can share the same lenses as your D700.
