Pentax K200 - The camera shown in use on MSNBC

Since I am about to drop my PC to do annual cleaning and install Win7 I will be offline a bit but had to leave this. Noticed the insect macros shot by Thomas Shahan and displayed on "Today" on MSNBC show him using a K200, face in the dirt just like a real insect hunter should be. The shots are all beautiful but he and his gear are on slide #19.

Incredible insect photos - TODAY

Pentax should contact this guy for advertising. Pity he didn't say on tv what kind of camera he was using. That woulda' been killer press for Pentax.

He had the opportunity to say he was shooting Pentax, but didn't take it. Brand shame, I guess.

It does mention the Pentax K200D with 28mm SMC Takumar lens in October Issue of Popular Photography magazine!

Maybe he is waiting for his free K-7 with Pentax macro lenses and AF160FC ring flash from Pentax.

Yeah...you know...national press coverage both on TV and in print and he's embarrassed since he used (obviously) inferior gear

Good try, though...the Pop article clearly states what he used

That's all fine & dandy. Good try at what?? I'm not knocking the brand, his pictures speak for themselves. Great stuff & obviously wonderful gear. I have purchased three Pentax DSLRs myself and have a very nice side business utilizing the equipment.

I was just wondering why he didn't say "Pentax K200D" when he was asked what camera he uses. You tell me why that was more difficult than saying "regular digital SLR camera"... Maybe he sees an opportunity to get some brand support from Pentax or others and was deliberately non-committal.

If I was asked, "Pentax" would be the first word across my lips. I don't care who might offer free gear.

Maybe he thought they were asking if he used some crazy one-off camera system only produced on the star Aldebaran or something...that's my first thought.

It IS a regular SLR, after all.

Wow. Amazing images.

Even if he is a "gold fish cracker" fan boy...

I've been following him for a while on Flickr. Ask him on his picture and see what he says!

Forget the camera body, which lens?

Tags on most of the Flickr photos show 50mm at 1.4. So reversed the mount, extension tubes, and what other gear?

Brilliant photos.

I think he's a Pentax fan..he started with a Pentax istD...now uses a Pentax k200D. On his website in responses to those who ask what equipment he uses...he freely discusses the camera make, the lenses .

Until I came to this forum I never had any thoughts about Pentax being an inferior brand...still don't...but it seems to be a big focus for some.

Did any of you stop to think that maybe he wasn't allowed to mention the brand?

The camera and lens are just the tools.
