JVC and Kenwood sucks! It will be interesting how Pentax will go with JVC and Kenwood, I always thought they were cheap "Wal-Mart exclusive-like" brands.
I don't know about the US market, but JVC is a very reputable name here, with a long-standing footing in the professional market. It is also well-known for their many innovations in the video world and not the least a great name from old hifi days (just think about the legendary JVC-SEA line of equalizers!) They sure have some disount products, but so have all the other brands, too.

Believe me, they will figure out a way to make the JVC way bigger than that! Look at the branding on their consumer video cams

I wonder how Minolta users felt when a big ugly "SONY" ended up on everything.
I, for one, was not very happy. I have a high end Minolta film scanner and "SONY" did not appear on those. They just disappeared just like anything else related to FILM.
I just hope that Minolta quality is good because I would hate it to break down.

Still, at least JVC is an established A/V products brand.

Pentax could do worse:

It'll probably depend on whether they decide to keep the brand or not. Pentax is a brand name....JVC DSLRs just doesn't make sense (though Sony DSLRs also didn't ;-)

As long as they can pump money and R&D dollars into it to keep it on a roll, it'll be ok...

I have seen more JVC video camera ads on TV than I have for any other brand. Maybe being bought by a company that believes in advertising would be a good thing.

Looks like a confirmation... Bad, bad, I think. I would expect, that JVC is mainly interested in point-and-shoot or bridge cameras for the masses. DSLRs are too complex from the viewpoint of a CE manufacturer. They may make use of Pentax' optical expertise (developing lenses for their camcorders etc.), but I cannot see a sensible development for the DSLR branch of Pentax under JVC. And selling the DSLR unit to yet another party is very unlikely and probably not viable anyway. I hope, reality proofs my assumptions wrong.
