JVC may sell tunes unit, buy Pentax !

"JVC Kenwood Holdings Inc. is considering selling its music software company Victor Entertainment Inc. while buying the Pentax digital camera unit of optical glass maker Hoya Corp., sources said Wednesday.

Combining the still-image camera unit of Pentax and its own camcorder business would generate synergy effects and improve the firm's competitiveness, the sources said."

Where there is smoke, there is fire! I am sure there is some truth to this rumor, however, how far the negotiations/discussions have proceeded we may never know, or we may find out when a deal is consumated.

As to Hoya's statement that they would not shut down the Pentax division, that does not contradict or exclude their selling it off. Frankly, I would like to see a deal like this go through and would only hope that the brand (Pentax name) is preserved because of it's history, even if today's consumer may not be that aware of such things.

I think a company like JVC, with it's expertise and commitment to the video/electronics products is a better match than Hoya, remember Pentax also makes video camera lenses.

Actually you can look at this in 2 ways. I think it's weak and does not deny anything exactly. Orig rumor also said "sale by the end of Nov". WHAT is Hoya denying???
Sorry, I'm just suspicious that way. Maybe just a weak translation though..........

Today, a news media reported that HOYA CORPORATION would sell the business of digital
cameras to JVC KENWOOD Holdings, Inc. However, it is not a fact that the article reported.

From what I've interpreted, it says Pentax is being sold to JVC, and it's not true what the article said. It doesn't make sense for sure.

Wow, seems like you're the one who is keen to perpetuate rumours further... or beat the proverbial dead horse even more. Get over it, you're calling it as smoke when it is really hot air...

In case you didn't know, JVC Kenwood is in worse financial shape than Hoya, a very profitable corporation. Is it any wonder why Matsushita (Panasonic... the company that makes Lumix) reduced it's stake in JVC after bearing JVC's losses for so long?

"worse" is an understatement. JVC is losing money, big time - how can this be considered a "better match"? Would they invest in Pentax, or rather consume the small profit Pentax can make?

Maybe we are all thinking in the wrong direction and it's Hoya who is planning to buy JVC

What does it matter anyway. As long as we can get the same or even better Pentax product.I'm sure whoever own Pentax won't let the company slide down the waist side.

True, but if they spin off unprofitable businesses (music and TV) they may generate enough cash. A digicam maker would be a good portfolio fit for a company that specialises in video, given the convergence of the two technologies.

Now whether they could manage it properly is another issue....signs so far have not been that good.

It's in Engrish. Not the clearest of languages.

What they're denying, or rather refuting, is the rumour someone's started.

Nothing of the sort! Without trying to turn this thread into a pedantic exercise, or even a discussion of semantics, I was simply suggesting that rumors do not materialize out of thin air, there is typically some basis on which these stories are predicated.

No doubt they can become distorted and run away with themselves, and likely, we will never know the whole story, but usually there is some basis of observation (smoke) that may, given the right conditions, become reality (fire). And, after all, this forum is called news and RUMORS.
