There's a problem with the terms of the K-7 kit rebate. The rebate form says:

QuoteOriginally posted by Pentax Rebate Form:
If you purchase a K-7 kit conguration, you will need to cut out the original UPC code from the camera body box and lens box located inside the kit package.
However, I'm looking at the K-7 + DA 18-55 WR kit I just got, and there is no inner box for the lens. The lens was held in place inside the larger box by some cardboard dividers and bubble wrap, but there was no separate box from which I could get a UPC. As written, it's impossible to satisfy the terms of the rebate with the K-7 kit. Figures.

Where did you buy your kit from? Sounds like it may have been a return.

It was from Amazon. I don't think there's any sign that the lens should have been in any other container. The location inside the box was exactly beg enough to snugly hold the lens, and there wasn't enough room to put a small box containing the lens. There were no other signs of it being a return. Everything in the box looked untouched.

So has anyone seen a K-7 kit with a separate box for the lens? Can someone confirm whether mine was packaged as it ought to be?

Well, my kit was a self-contained kit in a special "kit" box. Others may have gotten the separate body and lens(es) sold simultaneously and called a kit, but I suspect that may not be the same thing as far as Pentax is concerned. Of course, you could get the same rebate by claiming the 18-55 as a lens purchased with the body, so it really doesn't matter either way.

Attached are a couple pics of what I got. Notice the print on the outside of the box, clearly showing that both the camera and lens are inside. The inside shot of the box shows how the lens was when I first opened it (don't remember if the hood was attached or not). It's the bubble-wrapped thing in the middle. No lens box...no room for a lens box.

stormcloud, the Pentax rebate form identifies the K-7 kit as having UPC code 027075155305. That's the number on the bar code you have to submit to claim the rebate. Did your kit have that on any of the packaging, or do you just have the individual UPC codes of the body and lenses?

UPC codes

K-7 Body: 027075156145
DA 18-55 WR: 027075154407
DA 50-200 WR: 027075154308

Ah this rebate totally confuses me and I have done tons of rebates in my day.

So I can buy the k-7 with kit lens and get $100 but say I buy a FA 50mm f1.4 with it will I get another $100 for a total of $200 back?
Ja

Just remember to buy them at the same time

As far as I can understand, as long as you buy a K-7, you'll get $100 back on a lens purchase. When you buy it and the kit lens, you get $100 off that lens.

Heres the rebate info as of 11-16-09

Heres the rebate info as of 11-16-09.

It seems buying the K-7 without the included WR bundled kit lens counts, and then again maybe not?

I've lost some rebate bucks over the years so I am always skeptical. I now only buy mail away and pray rebate fullfillment items if I actually need the item irregardless to money back scheme. If anything rebated money in the mail makes me pass on potential purchases.

here's what I clipped off the form:

Please note: Earn a $100 Prepaid Card when you purchase the K-7 kit that includes the PENTAX DA18-55mm WR lens, and a $100 Prepaid Card on each additional PENTAX lens when purchased at the
same time as the K-7 body. Lens(es) must be purchased at the same time on the same receipt as the
K-7. If you purchase a K-7 kit configuration, you will need to cut out the original UPC code from the
camera body box and lens box located inside the kit package. All UPC codes for all products must be
submitted. Rebate excludes products purchased at Best Buy and BestBuy.com.

To receive your Prepaid Card you must enclose the following:
1) Completed rebate form. Please check the box next to the item(s) you have purchased.
Items purchased must include a K-7.
2) Original sales receipt. (Retain copy of your receipt for your records.)
3) Original UPC bar code from box of the K-7 body and UPC bar code from each lens purchased.

If you buy K-7 without bundled kit lens, then no $100 rebate

The way I read it is if:

You buy K-7 without bundled kit lens, then no $100 rebate for you, but the K-7 without bundled kit lens still qualifies you for rebated money back visa card on the above listed lens purchases.

A time sensitive 120 day use it or loose it deal.

So which UPC does your box have?

As far as I can understand, as long as you buy a K-7, you'll get $100 back...regardless of having the kit lens or not. You should be able to use either the one that ends in 6145 or 5305...

Return it and rebuy it.
actually... After contacting Amazon today, they went above and beyond... He refunded $100! No additional lens purchase necessary, although that is going to happen anyway. Just wanted to share excellent Amazon customer care.

EDIT: they must qualify the 18-55WR kit lens as qualifying for the rebate or why would they refund me $100? It was like I got the lens for free so to speak.

A little bit interesting that the DA* 16-50 is conspicuously missing as a choice. Could read some possible reasons into this I suppose. Simplest reason would be high demand relative to low supply. Any thoughts?

I notice that the rebate form no longer includes that language to include the UPC from the kit lens. They've obviously recognized the mistake and have corrected the form.
