Consumer Reports Magazine picks K200D as "Best Buy"

Although not ranked first, not even top three, but sixth amongst other fine DSLR in the "basic" group, Consumer Reports Magazine, a well established with circulations in millions and well regarded by some, in their December 2009 issue, picks Pentax K200D, which I understand to be no longer in production, as "Best Buy."

I will add to that, the K20D was in the review as well it didn't do as well as the K200D but still nice to see both models recognized. On top of that they rated some Pentax lenses very well, again nice to see what we all love being rated so positive in a nationally recognized and respected magazine.

it's nice they are recognized but too bad the reviews were soooo poor. how can they possibly test so many DSLRs to the proper level of detail. something like IQ half red doesn't mean much.

my dad subscribes and i flipped through it, their ratings and tables are meaningless. if a site like dpreview gets tonnes of flak for doing their "controlled" experiments these types of vague ranking reviews should just be ignored.

Limitations understood. Yet there is no such thing as bad publicity.

In Consumer Reports' 2010 Buying Guide, only three "Basic " and three "Advanced" SLRs are listed in the Select Ratings. The K200D is #3 in the Basic category, after the C*n*n T1i and the N*k*n D5000. Their numerical scores are essentially equal--not bad for last year's model! I predict the K-x could do even better in that crowd.

Unfortunately there is no Pentax represented in the Advanced group. The sole non-Canikon spot was taken by the Oly E-3.

That's great news. I don't think that the K200D is getting as much credit as it deserves.

Yeah, I read this a while back and was impressed. The only thing though is that Consumer Reports doesn't necessarily give detailed reports like dpreview, but generic overall tidbit info. Nevertheless, it's not bad publicity. As a K200D owner, I'm proud of my piece and it does great work. The buffer is slack, but overall, the performance is great. Check out my site or flickr page.

My next purchase will be the K-x or K7. I want the K7 but the K-x is better in my financial reach right now.

They say that they will be reviewing K-x in the Fall of 2012.

That's not for another 18 months... A bit useless I'd say to have it reviewed so late.

Maybe they took their cue from the just published MacWorld review of the K2000... They might as well included the Canon 30D, Nikon D200, and Sony F717 in this review.
