NX10, no so big how you think...

If we take the hot-shoe of reference, between Samsung NX10 and Panasonic GF1 the difference is not so big.

The NX10 is just 7% thicker than GF1 from mount to LCD.

The NX10 maybe be taller because the EVF.

I don't think the NX has an optical view finder.

Except for those people who want maximum compactness, which is the main target market of the GF1... in which case the NX is still too big because it's got the viewfinder hump.

Also, anyone check how much taller the actual body (aside from the hump) is? I've gotten the impression that there's a difference there.

In form factor and size, the NX10 we've seen so far is really closer to the G1/GH1.

As long as it's the *right* size. Too teeny can be more trouble than it's worth, anyway. If I were in the market for this sort of thing, I'd only end up with one of those shoemount optical finders on there all the time, anyway. I think it'd good that different makers are doing different things.

I hate electronic viewfinders with a passion, they still just don't have the same level of quality as an optical finder.

The NX10 looks to have a larger grip area than the GH1. I could not shoot for very long with my fingertips or contracted hand holding the body.

You can hold the camera like this:

Frank I tend to shoot my K10 "one-handed" and like the larger grip which allows me to hold the camera with the lower three fingers leaving the thumb and index to spin those dials. I do focus, zoom, and support with my left hand but I carry the camera with my right and usually don't use a neck strap.
I am sure the GH1 is perfect for many but not for me

Well, that's what I mean though. For some of us, the GF1/E-P1 are the "right" size because they can slip into a pocket with a pancake lens. Add the EVF hump, and you can't do that. Even if the other dimensions are similar, that hump adds a lot as far as the actual practical size of the thing.

I do not think NX's grip will be thicker than a pancacke attached. so pocketwise - almost the same (if samsung's pancacke will be of the same size with 4\3's one)

Not the grip. The viewfinder hump. It needs to be pretty flat on top to be actually pocketable. The grip is no big deal.

The problem with the NX10 is not the size, but the design. It just looks so flimsy and utilitarian. I'm sure it's fine to use, but from a design stand point I don't know too many people that would choose it over the E-P1 or even the G-F1. Seeing the name Samsung stuck on the prism hump doesn't help either. I think of TV's when I hear that name, not Cameras (Sony has the same issue, should have kept the Minolta name). They should do like Panasonic does and brand their cameras with a term similar to Lumix.
