Ben Edict's point about Pentax not having an existing pro market support infrastructure is a valid one. As he also said, that limiting initial sales to Japan may be done with that in mind.
However, I don't for a moment believe that Pentax would expend development funds on a 645D for pure sentimentality. Certainly, having once been in that market, they are not intimidated by it. No, they are business minded and must think that there is some possibility that they could be a market presence. Also, the ability to share camera technology between the APS market and the MF market may give them an edge.
And it is surprising, when a vendor has a hot product, how doors open in retail markets.
With the progressive success of the K10,20,m,7 and x, I wouldn't advise betting against Pentax. As their ad says "be interesting" The bzzz from the 645D will undoubtedly help sales for their other cameras.
