Well, this lens will make me happy with my next tour around the Europe

That link goes to a Japanese Amazon site. I tried the US site and I am getting US$850 and out of stock.

If it is US$600 I will buy it today.

maybe because its not available yet in US.
don't worry, usually US has lower price than Japan.

Nope it was announced by Pentax themselves that it will go for 850USD. And now I don't think US has lower prices when compared to Japan, Japan has cheaper PS3 games than over here in the US

Is the part that extends also in metal? It would be nice with a picture of the lens at 1:1 if an owner can take the time.
Also - is the manual focusing smooth as a Ltd?

Unlikely. It is probably plastic to keep weight low and help focusing speed.
