The Tokina 16.5 - 135 and 11-16 f/2.8 are both designed by Tokina.
The 16-50 f/2.8, 50-135 f/2.8, 35 f/2.8 Macro, 100 f/2.8 Macro, 10-17 fisheye zoom - were all designed by Pentax and sold to Tokina.

Now, about this statement Hoya stopping shared lens designs. The story may very well be that Tokina doesn't want to sell their lens designs to what Pentax (Hoya) is prepared to pay for them.

Or, it could very well be that Pentax are indeed preparing their own versions of those lenses, but they just aren't finished yet. (The 11-16 was in Pentax unofficial roadmap before the K20D was released).

They need SDM drive and weather sealing.

Isn't the 12-24 at Tokina design licensed to Pentax?

Repeat after me " I don't need any more lenses; I don't need any more lenses; I don't need - hey, that's a bargin, where's the credit card"
You're probably right, but I'd peg it at $5-6000 in a 500 f/4 flavour and 4-5K for a 400mm f/4.

My biggest fear is that they'll release a DA* 400mm f/5.6 that's a re-badge of the FA* version like they did with the 200mm. Don't get me wrong, I like my FA* 400, but it's not as sharp as most other 400mm primes out there now, whereas the 200 was & is a very sharp lens.

And while I don't "need" any more lenses, I can't say I'd be able to pass up a chance for a weather-sealed, near silent super-tele. (though I'm sure my wife would encourage me to pass it up )

The DA 50-200mm WR is out so that one makes sense. I don't see why they would discontinue a special order lens. The DA 16-45mm doesn't make sense at this point either.

Special Order Lenses: Because they let go all those highly-skilled but expensive Japanese hand laborers last year and moved manufacturing to Taiwan, Vietnam and the Phillippines. Pentax no longer has the capability to manufacture a lot of these fine lenses. They're forced to use the Filipino and Vietnamese lens factories now, where processes are more automated and laborers are less skilled.

That;'s a large part of the reason we won't see many, if any, FA-variant lenses in FF digital - it may in fact be the REASON Pentax won't make a FF camera. They CAN'T make the lenses.

16-45: We know manufacturers batch-manufacture their lenses and store them in warehouses for sale by lots. The existing stock is running low, the production lines are probably dedicated to something else now, so they can't start a new batch of 16-45 without hiring and training more workers - matbe even opening new productions lines (Capital shortage? What's a capital shortage?)

So the lens is just "discontinued."

No. 16.5-135 - by Pentax. Check patent base, please.

Then, does that leave any Tokina lenses not made by pentax?

I have no Tokina available locally to look at but

I have no Tokina lenses available locally to look at but are the current Tokinas made for Canon and Nikon mounts, the ones that also share same specs with Pentax versions like 10-17mm, 16-50mm, 50-135mm, 35mm Macro, Made in Japan ???

or are these current Tokina "Co-Designed" clones:

Stamped, hidden inside their lensmounts "Made in Vietnam" or as Pentax likes to say, "Assembled in Vietnam"?

If current Tokina lenses are still "Made in Japan" then why would anyone think Pentax makes these Tokinas for Canon and Nikon mounts?

I don't know as I've never handled a current Tokina branded lenses for Canon or Nikon mounts:

Pentax and Tokina do not sell products locally, just via the internets.

Sorry, that was a bad choice of words on my part, I should have said 'designed' instead of 'made'.

I've heard disputing views on the 100mm Macro. Some say it's a Tokina lens, some say it's a Pentax redesign of the FA 100mm Macro.
