Affordability would be a factor, too: getting more people to shoot those primes would be really good for Pentax's rep for IQ and all. The thing is, the 31 is already there for a higher-dollar lens: I'm sure that'd be what I'd be shooting if I had the scratch.
I'm leaning toward the Sigma 28/1.8, myself: it's a beast, but I kind of can make that up by the fact that the FA 50 is a lot smaller and lighter than an 85 would be, and it's a bit cheaper compared to the 30, and closer to the 40mm equivalent I'd like to be using. (My shooting habits mean that a 28 and 50 can do the jobs I'd do with a 35, 50, and 85 in FF) Also, the full-frame could be useful on occasion.
