Why not?

If so many are arguing and doubting that the image is shopped, especially being photographers. Just for the sake of fun. There are enough people with too much time out there.

Same as many of those speculating in here. It should be obvious that it is fake, they are just having fun, or do you really believe they are having serious analytical discussion?

It looks to me like there is definite post-processing like you mention, especially with the light rays and the exposure along the camera and in front of his body. The smudges can easily be from the masking done to change the light. I don't think the lens itself is cloned in, as the light in the front of the lens is way too real to be a clone, and if it is a clone, why clone in an obvious DA300?

In this case I can agree that it's definitely photoshopped. But I think it doesn't exclude the possibility that it's a poor ps by Pentax and that the product is for real. Remains to be seen.
The K-7 and DA*300 are already real

And when has Pentax ever released a poorly PS'd pic...of anything...current or future?

So, the consensus is that this guy went to the extreme to photoshop in a K-7 with the DA300 attached to it, Why?

Seems like someone wanted to start a rumor...for some reason...while not going through the effort to fake, say, the DFA 55 or whatever it was for the 645D.

Tiger chose Pentax for the anonymity. He could use some.

Alls I know is that whatever it's supposed to be isn't for sale at B&H so it might as well be the DA* 1.4X weather sealed teleconverter for the good it's doing any of us. Jeesus now we have to wait through 2 or 3 years of this BS rumor?

I think what we have here is a pentaxian's attempt at starting a rumor which might gain momentum and lead to Pentax building one such lens

Well, the only lens remaining on the len map is the super telephoto. Other than that, no one knows what Pentax's plans are. The question is when they will bring that out and how long it will be, but your guess is as good as mine.

All lenses from 300 and longer - super telephoto.

On a 1.5x crop camera it can be argued that it is, as it gives you the same fov frame as 600mm. 400/4 is "nice", should be basically in-line w/a 300/2.8 +1.4x TC or 600/5.6 dimensionally.

...Just way way too late for me. Now IF it is WR (w/o being a '*' lens) and has better AF by virtue of being compatible with the new focusing technology in the new bodies (what is that, contrast detect?) I may consider selling my Sigma 300/2.8 to help fund a move over to it... but that's probably three years down the road, if this even ever materializes.

I personally would like to see a 300/2.8.
I think the Sigma is going to be my next purchase but I am going to have to sell my 100-300 to help fund it.
I am thinking with a 300/2.8 I will also have a 420/4 and 600/5.6.
I will probably never be able to afford a 600/4 and Pentax knows that is the same with most folks. So a release of a 400/4 or 5.6 is more realistic.

Anyway, any release of a new lens/camera by Pentax only makes me more hopeful of our future.

Announced price for the future Nikkor AF-S 300 mm f/2,8G ED VR II : 6659 euros...

Even if Pentax puts a lower price on an inhouse 300/2.8 (because of no VR), I would not think it would be priced below 5000 euros. That makes quite a budget for 1 stop improvement as compared to the existing 300/4. (at this focal length vigneting / FF compatibility is much less an issue than on the wide end.)

I'd rather see 1.4x and 2x TC, Tilt-shift lenses, or 150-300/4 zoom, but my guess is that Pentax is preparing the new 645D lens lineup (3 or 4 primes + zooms) and have started to design their FF lens lineup to release somewhere in 2011 or after.

Sigma is already big on super-telephoto range, even if Pentax can price significantly higher, their customer base is so much smaller than C&N that it doesn't make any sense. Especially if you think that the customer base for those lenses are mostly sport magazines (that buys photo gears from Canon and Nikon for professional support and homogenieity of their inventory)

I agree that "dream" lenses are important for marketing, but IMHO Pentax has other means to reach this goal like releasing ultra-luminous primes (55/1.2, 35/1.4, 20/1.4, 85/1.2) or providing tilt shift lenses. Nobody is in the head of Pentax and they have shown recently to say little and stick to what they say.

Regards,
Guillaume
