However, since then the 55-300mm has been released in a "L" (weight reduced, plastic mount) version, and not WR, I'm wondering if it will be. It may be that there is just a lot of other things going on, and it will be released in due course.
It wouldn't suprise me if pentax plan on taking the DA55-300 down the same road as the DA50-200; A DA-L version, and a DA WR version, with the 'normal' DA discontinued. Makes a whole lot of sense to me.

There will be a 55-300 WR, to increase the gap between the standard 55-300 and the L version. So standard version will be WR, and the current non-WR will be discontinued.
But I don't know when. Pentax has many lenses to re-design and put into production plus they are busy designing new lenses. It may be another 6 months wait for a 55-300 WR. Or it could be just around the corner. I don't know.

About superzoom - yes Pentax had plans for it. It is featured in an unofficial roadmap that dates back to the K20D release. I don't know if the idea is shelved or if Pentax are still working on it.

Wow...I don't know where to begin with everything wrong with that site. If that's really a Pentax-run site, they should be ashamed. The bottom set of bullets on the linked 55-300mm page says that the lens is has internal focus (the existing 55-300 does not), is SDM, and weather resistant. That's a pretty huge departure from the current lens...it would have to be a completely redesigned animal (especially if they're adding internal focus!). Oh, and that's completely ignoring the fact that the image on that page is of a FA J 75-300mm lens!

You're really better off ignoring everything on that entire site. There are several other pages with horrible errors. For example, the DA* 60-250mm page has the same type of egregious mistakes. Those bottom bullets say the lens is "Limited" (it's not from that series)...that it features aluminum construction (it doesn't)...and that it focuses as close as 13.9 cm (it doesn't, and that contradicts the 1.1m given on the very same page!!).

Obviously, the information in the blue bullets at the bottoms of these pages was copied and pasted carelessly from other lenses' pages. Therefore, they are nothing but bits of worthless information.
