I guess Amazon Prime just paid for itself for me then. $6.99 next day w/ Sat. delivery. $660 all told.

Deal? Check the shipping costs.

From what I gathered it is $9.98/ pound to ship to Canada and the item is noted to weigh 5 pounds. The shipper is UPS so there will be brokerage/duty/bond fees. That's going to be costly. Well over $100 for an item of this value.

brokerage fee list

Rough estimates on the $702 US (Camera + shipping) = $760 Canadian. Add brokerage fees (?), taxes (13%) and this shiny deal is looking a bit tarnished.

Just a thought, would Pentax Canada honour a US purchased camera or would it have to be returned to the US for any warranty work?

Not trying to be a wet blanket but just making fellow Ontarians aware of the actual costs.

I contacted Pentax about warranty service for a camera purchased in the US. They told me that an international warranty would be $50, and would be valid for one year.

I don't believe this is accurate. If you purchase the camera/lens out of country, the international warranty does apply (it is true it is only one year); however, you can get it serviced in your country during that year without some extra payment.

I definitely have done the reverse and have bought lenses from Prodigital2000 (a Canadian company) and then had them serviced in the US without any additional payment or hassle.

This is the email I received from a Pentax CSR when I made an inquiry about warranty coverage for a camera purchased outside of Canada:

Thank you for your email. Please note that to qualify for warranty repairs, the camera must be purchased through an authorized Canadian dealer. If you are making the purchase outside of Canada, then you would be subject to a $50.00 international warranty fee, should the camera need to come in for service. Also, the item would only have a 1 year warranty.

Thank you.

You are in the USA. The 'deal' works for you.
The info I mentioned was for prospective Canadian buyers of this deal through Amazon.
It's certainly not the same bargain for us.

Pulled. The. Trigger.

Thanks to corporate stock climbing I was able to ditch some old shares and thus free up some Benjikans (can I make a joke like that, even though I'm a PF noob?) for my purchase. K-X + 18-55 and 55-300 + Eneloops + SDHC card ordered from Amazon at the $653 price.

I can NOT wait!

I have cameras and lenses on the brain and need to exorcise myself from that demon!!!

I might have a little left over to scour the world for some cheap old MF lenses.

Yeehaw!

Can there be any doubt that it is the cheaper DA L version without the quickshift and with the plastic mount?

Looks like Amazon is back to $644 with this kit 18/55 & 55/300 lens. Isn't there a $50 rebate until 2/15? That would bring the price to $594. Not bad.

JMBRAD, I apologize for being a grumpy dick.

I'll be happy to post the info when I receive my kit.

Is this true? or is the price already reflecting the $50 instant rebate? anyone? i'd love to make the jump for the k-x (kit) and this price would be even better.

Although, $644 is already a great price.

Someone at Slickdeals has a k-x 18-55 kit for ~$433 (bing cash back) too:
Pentax K-X with 18-55mm kit $509.99 - 15% BCB = $433.49 From TD w/FS and no tax for most - *************** Forums

Here's a link from the Pentax Website. However, it looks like it's an instant rebate so I guess the Amazon price already took that into account to get to the $644 price. Not sure though.
