Isn't Samsung NX10 a win for Pentax?

Isn't Samsung NX10 a win~win for Pentax and Hoya?

According to recent Bloomberg interview Pentax makes all Samsung interchangeable lens digital cameras, so Pentax must make this one too.

So, its a good day for Pentax and Hoya.

Happy New Year

It was said on another thread that Pentax does not make the NX lenses.

Relevance to this thread? The NX has absolutely nothing to do with Pentax.

I need proof Hoya-Pentax is not making Samsung NX-10

I need proof Hoya-Pentax is not making Samsung NX-10. According to Pentax Corporation President interview he says they do make Samsung Logo cameras for Samsung:

Hoya Eyes $1 Billion M&A to Boost Health Business (Update2) - Bloomberg.com

"Partnership For Pentax

The Pentax division will have to build a partnership in order to compete with larger rivals in the digital-camera market, Hamada said. Pentax supplies Samsung with single-lens-reflex cameras for sale under the South Korean company’s brand.

“I don’t know whether we’ll go with Samsung or somebody else, but I can say that we’ll have a deeper relationship with some electronics guys,” Hamada said. “There will be consolidation in the camera business and a small player like us will be like a small boat on a rough sea. But let me be clear: we will not shut down this business.”

Well, aside from completely hijacking this thread, the NX10 is not a DSLR. In order to be a Reflex camera, there would have to be a mirror.

Nevermind No Samsung GX-100 (D or DS), No Samsung GX-200, No Samsung GX-M, No Samsung GX-7, No Samsung GX-X. That is 2 years and 5 bodies worth of manufacturer separation, how much more do you need?

According to you, "No"

But According to B&H and many others whom I respect the answer is "yes"

Explain for me why pansonic, olympus, leica cameras are included in B&H dslr digital catagory???

In the meantime any search will reveal EVIL cameras are classified officially as Dslr.

SLR Digital Cameras

I'll add the recent year end 2009 Japan dslr sales stats everyone loves to quote.
Why are EVIL cameras grouped into Dslrs ???

Panasonic entire lineup of 3 of 3 dslrs are included in Top20 "Dslr" in Japan 2009 sales.

You're increasingly losing my respect, unless you're joking. I have difficulty detecting sarcasm.

...because whoever entered those entries in the store's database is a moron.

They're classified as such by morons.

Probably just marketing reasons that they want to try to stay hidden and blend in with the DSLR name as long as they can. If they aren't seen as "DSLR's", new consumers probably wouldn't want to buy it because DSLR's have been around much much longer, overall DSLR's do pack more power in every way anyway. If they knew what EVIL's were they'd probably Google it and find out they want an actual DSLR instead. Right now newer consumers will probably just look at these EVILs and think they are cute compact DSLR's and want it because they look cool and they are tiny.

They are classified as such because there is no real category for them currently - much like Netbooks, they will receive one soon enough.

Basing their classification as a dSLR because of a retail website categorization is a pretty slim argument. No response to my listing of non-samsung related Pentax dslrs though, so at least you can see the partnership is hanging on by a thread, if at all.

Someone coined the category over a dpreview (not going to go back and look for it now!) as dLS - digital large sensor - makes sense to me. These ARE NOT dSLRs.

Welcome to 2010, Happy New Year

Welcome to 2010, Happy New Year. Your oldschool Dslr thinking predates the launch of Panasonic G-1 from a couple years ago.

That G-1 m4/3 Dslr changed everything.

Things of note, if you can change the lens on a digital camera its know as a "Dslr" at most websites, in most magazines, ect...

In this article there's no arguing EVIL cameras are or not Dslrs. They simply exist and are taking sales from other Dslrs.

2009 Nikon News and Comments by Thom Hogan

When Does Panic Set In?
Dec 29 (commentary)--The Japanese camera makers see their own camera market (i.e. sales in Japan) very well. Too well. They often over-rely on it to gauge what they should be doing next.

Well, if that's the case, there must be some panic afoot in Japan. Consider the top 20 selling interchangeable lens cameras in Japan from Jan 1 through Dec 23 (camera models ordered from best selling to worst within brand):

Canon 37.9% (Kiss2, Kiss3, 50D, 5DII, 7D, 1000D)
Nikon 28% (D90, D5000, D60, D40, D3000)
Panasonic 8.5% (G1, GF1, GH1)
Olympus 4.3% (E-P1, E-520)
Pentax 4.3% (K-m, K-x)
Sony 4% (A300, A350)
Those 20 cameras account for 87% of the DSLR sales in Japan. Nikon and Canon do pretty well in the 13% of cameras I haven't identified so far--add those in and Canon tops 40% and Nikon nears 35%.

Still, we've got four m4/3 cameras grabbing 11.5% of the home market. Think that got anyone's attention? And Pentax's two low-end models outselling Sony's. Think that got Sony's attention? That 5DII being the lone FX body to break the top 20 (at #13 and 2.1%), think that got Nikon's attention? Or how about the D3000 not living up to its potential (14th and 1.8% for a half year of sales isn't matching what either the D40 or D60 did)?

Most? What drugs are you smoking? Send me some.

Name me a SINGLE photography magazine *article* (not a store advertisement) that refers to a non-single-lens-reflex camera as a single-lens-reflex camera. A camera that lacks a reflex mirror is not an SLR or TLR.

They're talking about the GX DSLR series, which were re-branded Pentax cameras, made by Pentax in the Pentax factory at Philippines. It's not about the NX, which is not made by Pentax and it's not a single-lens-reflex camera.
A single lens reflex camera is a piece of photographic equipment with very specific characteristics regarding the viewing mechanism. It will always have an optical, through the (single) lens viewfinder, it will always have a mirror that reflects the light to the viewfinder. And it will usually have a pentaprism/pentamirror, that allows us to see a "straight" image. Lose one of the 2 "always" characteristics, and that camera is no longer an SLR.
And that is an unarguable fact.

I hope HoyaPentax is making Samsung's NX10

I hope HoyaPentax is also making Samsung's NX10 so they can share in its initial success and have an obvious reason why they only offer two aps-c dslrs thesedays: K-7 and K-x. If not then its kinda sad Hoya's K-x is getting dusted by 26,000 plus hits in just 18 hours after the Dpreview article about NX10 posted:

Since this thread is getting increasingly surreal, let me add the following:

RiceHigh's Pentax Blog: The NX is Not K-Mount. (So, let's forget about it from now on!)

"Atheistic wise, the Oly EP and Pana GF are far better. "

Being an atheist, I guess I should avoid the Samsung NX.
