Oh My God, you hit me with a RiceHigh Info Stick

Wow. I'm momentarily speechless.

Being an atheist, I guess I should avoid the Samsung NX.

Oh, boy; you really are something.
It's absolutely normal for a reviewed camera to gather so many 'clicks', after which the counter will slowly decrease to more reasonable numbers; it happens again and again. Don't expect the NX10 will stay on the first place for long.
Any other theory?

Maybe people get back to the article at DPR just to check if it really is as ugly as they remember it. :ugh:

I'm glad Pentax wasn't on this as a partner. Somehow it is disappointing both by design and spec.
I do hope pentax will release something EVIL soon, but I hope for something more tasteful.

Pretty cool! Some interesting anecdotal data here:

2 full-frame cameras
3 Micro 4/3 cameras
2 compacts

Over the last year there's been a lot of talk about the market moving in two directions:

- towards full frame
- towards smaller form factors like M43

Looks like the stampede in either direction hasn't started yet.
Both FF cameras has been selling for well over 1 year now, seeing them on the first places would be very suspicious.

I sure wish Pentax was. The NX is ugly (good looking ergo's though), but Pentax could have changed their version of it around some to be more aesthetically pleasing just like Leica does with Panasonic. It should be interesting. These mirrorless cameras are going to do away with cameras like the K-x/D5000/Rebel sooner or later. They're already smaller, have decent AF, and they will eventually be cheaper to make and should last longer since they have fewer moving parts. Plus adapters allow you to use pretty much any old manual lens from any manufacturer. That's fun for enthusiast.

But as far as stats go, I think Flickr stats mean more than DPR's stats do since DPR's are always skewed to their latest reviews and Flickr is actual people using the cameras. They should list their all time most visited reviews as well as their last 5 days.

The Panasonic GF1 is averaging 130 daily users and has 201,000+ images uploaded. The Olympus E-P1 has 160 daily users/436,000+ images. The K-X has 35 daily users and 44,000+ images. To put things in perspective the Rebel Xsi has 4,400 daily users and over 28 million images uploaded.

Flickr: Camera Finder: Panasonic

Flickr: Camera Finder: Olympus

Flickr: Camera Finder: Pentax

Flickr: Camera Finder: Canon

Obviously people are interested in EVIL's, but lets face facts, they will never be extremely popular until Canon or Nikon makes one. People just can't get past the brand name.

Art Vandelay II, the K-x just came out later than the GF1 and EP-1, so with 35 daily users and 44,000+ images compared to those is actually very good. I don't think any of these EVIL's will ever be better than the APS-C, maybe things will turn around since Samsung has now released an actual APS-C sized sensor EVIL.

As far as EVILs replacing the APS-C DSLR, not at all. I don't think they will and it will ever be as popular as the APS-C DSLR, but it could still stay alive as another format if they continue pushing it.

Even myself is not interested in EVIL's at the moment. The reason why I don't think EVILs will ever be as good is because it's missing some key features such as a real viewfinder, and it's small size is a bit too small for some people. The EVIL can stay alive as a street photographers dream camera, but in other ways, not a chance of replacing the APS-C.

For the reason why it won't replace the APS-C, is an actual "live" viewfinder instead of an electronic one, larger size, and most important of all is the many people who use these APS-C for wedding photography and professional fashion photography. Other than full frame, I've seen people use APS-C DSLR's for weddings and fashion photography and I just don't see how these EVILs will ever be good enough for that kind of work. Especially with the 2x crop sized sensor, they can only pack so much power and pixels into it without degrading the IQ.

I think EVILs are just another format that is not necessarily necessary because the APS-C already does what it does and it does it even better, the size of the K-x and D40 are so small that some are even complaining of it being already too small. I think the size of the K-x is as small without people complaining as small can go. To me, I see the EVIL as another format for other brands that don't stand a chance with Canikon in the DSLR market. They create this EVIL as another format so they can attract other people into this format, and if Canikon ever comes into play, Olympus, Panasonic already has the headstart. I think they made it to eventually try to compete with the APS-C DSLR against Canikon duopoly in the DSLR market, but it's not going to work out as good as they expect.

EVIL may be good and big now, but in the long-run I don't know how it will go, maybe they will do better than I expect if they keep pushing this technology forward. However with this actual APS-C sized sensor used in the NX-10, it would be good if they actually placed it into a real DSLR body and equip it with the same DSLR technology such as a real viewfinder, larger grip, etc. Then as you stated about lasting longer with fewer moving parts, it could work out without the mirror and for those who want quiet when releasing the shutter.

I didn't say it would replace all APS-C DSLR's, just the entry level. They will be smaller, cheaper, and have good enough IQ. In other words they'll beat entry level DSLR's at they're own game.

As far as 4/3's vs APS-C IQ debate goes, things aren't as different as they used to be. At best APS-C has a one stop advantage over 4/3's now.

Also, the K-x wasn't announced long after the G-F1, both were announced in September 2009 and the G-F1 already has twice as many users on Flickr. If Canon made the GF1 I'd say tht didn't matter, but Pentax should be able to sell as many $600+ cameras as Panasonic does, neither are exactly Canikon. The GF1 is also $300 more than the K-x. Imagine when they start making a sub $600 EVIL.

Seeing these dpreview hit stats is new to me

Seeing these dpreview hit stats is new to me. Before the thread here was started pointing out K-x was #1 I'd never seen the chart. That said this thread did start with this very same link just 2 days ago.

At 7pm Eastern USA time the NX10 article will turn 24 hour old. Compare that with the 120 hours of accumulated hits the other 19 cameras have.

Me? I was frustrated when NX10 got delayed last year. It was announced at CES 2009 and shown off as coming soon. I'm not interested in buying Samsung NX10 now that I've seen the LONG OVERDUE Specs minus the price.

So I'm back to considering GH1 and its Kit lens for $1,299. I've seen really great images from it, it exists, so thats what I may impulse buy at somepoint. Especially if the price drops $200 more. I'll run out of reasons to skip it.

At 4pm Eastern USA time, 21 hours after the preview article posted the Samsung NX-10 has almost doubled the hits Pentax K-x has, with a strong 44,000 hit lead. I say its still impressive the K-x sits at #2 spot. More impressive if Hoya is building these NX-10 for Samsung as I'm sure Hoya isn't doing so for free. If Pentax isn't building these for Samsung then thats too bad as it appears they then passed on a hugely succesful viral marketing tool had they simply made up, or roadmapped up an EVIL Camera of their own to tease us with.

Not sure what Samsungian is smoking, but I sure don't want any. Silly to look at numbers looking at reviews too soon after they are released. Numbers tend to go up dramatically and then fall away dramatically -- not really people interested in buying, just looking. I'd say the Kx numbers are more accurate.

Sheesh, are you really checking that thing every hour? Why? This happens every single time they post a new camera review no matter what camera it is. If the NX is still in their top 10 two months from now then get excited, but as for now it doesn't mean anything.

I don't expect them to be in the top spots. But some people talk about Pentax going under because the market is moving towards full frame, yet these numbers and Amazon sales numbers don't support that claim.

I tend to agree, but someone's got to introduce one that's price-competitive with entry level dSLRs first. Once that happens, all those people you see in tourist areas lugging around dSLRs with kit lenses welded on for snapshots will jump to the smaller form factor.

I dont exactly know what you are trying to get at samsungian, but please stop posting unrelated things in a thread you hijacked! By your logic, the Leica X1, with over 30K hits, will also be a big seller. Good luck convincing us of that one too.
