I have not seen any evidence produced, and if its in that linked DPR thread... it would be helpful if someone whos actually read the thread could pick out and repost some of the important bits. Navigating DPR threads is hell, and web time is expensive in Colombia.
Maybe important bits:
Demo of 1.01.05 v. 1.01.07: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Upper old firmware, lower new firmware.
Thought big was best.............. will remove in a bit.
Thanks to Model Mike.

Honestly, there's really no way to know what was fixed. It's all guessing and conjecture. Until Pentax comes out with the next official release of the firware (probably 1.02 in this case), then the changes won't be documented publicly. Once it is released though, then all these "silent" changes will likely be listed in there.

yeah, i'm just going to wait and see what the real changes are. As far as that picture goes, I can definitely tell the clarity of the latter over the first.

definitely not an official test but...

well before i had to hold real still when taking shots around 1/20 handheld. i can now slowly wave the camera around at 1/20 and get the same quality... sadly when i am playing like that i don't normally keep the shots. i only have the new shots... so it's not much of a test. but i am happy with whatever the update did. =) how's that for blissful ignorance!

oh and did it improve iso performance? cause it sure seems like 6400 is pretty nice to me.

Pentax hardly ever lists all the changes in firmware notes. To me, silent fixes are ways to make people happy without publicly acknowledging the issue

that's a truly odd business practice. For something as serious as SR issues, I highly doubt they will do that.

How can the customers get happy with these fixes if they don't know to update the software if the version number is the same?

My Shake test results

Ok did some test runs with newer firmware. Reviewed the images on my PC and graded them fairly independently (ie. graded by image number ignoring settings).

Previously doing this test I go an average of about 1 stop improvement with SR on.

What would you rate it now as? Maybe 2? Not sure if this statistically significant with this sample set....

Excuse the formatting (copied in from spreadsheet):

Rating Guide
1 Totally Useless / Difficult to recognise
2 Large amount of blur / really ugly
3 Significant blurring
4 Slightly degraded
5 Perfect

60th 3 5

3 300mm:

Because people who update late will argue with people who say there is a problem.

Then by next firmware fix the issue will be gone from forums.

While I don't agree with it, it is a logical process for a small company like Pentax.

You have to keep in mind that Pentax usually issue a new version at the end... So, these sub-versions are just temporary, and the average Joe will only see this last, new version instead of all the incremental ones...

What is stupid is just that they don't advertise these fixes...

K-x FW silent update? [Page 1]: Pentax SLR Talk Forum: Digital Photography Review
Rather odd that the only test of SR on that thread was while using a tripod, which is contrary to recommendations of the manufacturer. Only one poster commented on that.

Because then they can imagine that the update fixes whatever problem they want to be fixed.

That's untrue. For the K-7, the changes that were documented in firmware 1.0.2 were actually released as silent updates to 1.0.1. They typically do these silent updates to existing firmware, and then document them for real on the next main release. I agree that it's terrible business practice, since Customer Service has no idea which version of a firmware you're really working with when you have a problem. But the changes do get acknowledged eventually.

As the situation presents itself, why don't you simply follow up with the FW upgrade and re-do your original tests that lead you to believe you have the SR problems and post it back here?

I havent noticed any issues with my KXs SR, so I wouldnt be able to report back.

But you on the other hand, seems to be sure about issues with your camera, so that would be the best test to confirm if the FW helps it or not.

Thanks
