Very to easy to offer adapter.

It's not a question of changing the mount, its the mount registration distance.

I wonder how many people wanting a more compact Pentax EV camera realize that they will likely loose the ability to use their present lenses.

It would be very easy to offer a one inch or so adapter that would provide all of the functionality of current Pentax lenses EXCEPT screw drive AF. So, if you have lens-based AF lens (SDM, HSM, etc.), then no problem for full functionality, otherwise manual focus only but WITH all other lens features, info., etc. This is what Samsung is working on right now to offer with their NX camera.

I'd go for a Generally Over-performing Optical Device camera.

I'm not so sure the NX will support anything but exposure metering and manual focus with K-mount lenses, e.g. the same level of support as the micro4/3.

Japanese leaderboard December 2009 (total 80.2%):
500D 23.4
D5000 13.4
K-x 7.9
GF1 7.4
D90 7.3
7D 5.7
D3000 5.1
450D 3.7
E-P2 3.5
G1 2.8

EVILs have 13.7% in the top 10 with GH1 and E-P1 adding more.
Update from January 2010 (Japanese market only, total 80.1%):
500D 17.4
D5000 12.3
D90 10.6
GF1 8.0
K-x 7.9
450D 7.7
G1 5.2
D3000 4.6
7D 4.0
K-7 2.4

EVILs/Panasonic have 13.2% in the top 10 with GH1 and (in the case of EVILs) E-P1/E-P2 adding more. Perhaps some K-m sales still happening.

Pentax has 10.3% as the K-7 made the top 10.

That's pretty good! I wonder when they last time had more than 10% of their home market?

One thing which strikes me is Sony's absence from the top 10. Regarding Olympus, I would guess that the E-P1 is very close to the top 10 (but it's kind of sad that it sells so much more than the well-designed E-620...).

That's absolutely true. The E-620 has been kind of lost in the all the micro four-thirds excitement. It's actually a very good camera and pretty compact in its own rite.
