No, the 645 mount is completely different, larger and with longer regiustration distance than the K-mount.

The only analogy possible would be, if Pentax later would produce a FF camera with 645mount and FF lenses. Then, those 135format-645 mount lenses would mount on a 645D just like Nikkor DX lenses on a Nikon FF.
Thank you for the very clear answer.

Maybe now is a good time to start hoarding 645 glass.

55 for sure and for credibility a wider lens in 24-28mm for the 36x48 Sensor.

Zooms? we already have in FA 33-55, 45-85, 55-110, 80-160 and 150-300

I wonder how many of those we really have? They were all made at the now closed Japanese lens factory, except for the 150-300. I would asume what still available new is old stock, which might be considerable as the 645D has been long planned. I wonder of any of these are now manufactured in Vietnam.
Anyway, a D-FA645 standard zoom lens seems to be a good idea....

John Carlson is more than "just a Pentax rep".

In a March 2009 interview he said they'll be NO 645D for USA market, also known as "JCPentax", John Carlson is the "Product marketing and Support manager at Pentax USA":

PMA: Pentax revives medium format digital camera plan (update) news - Amateur Photographer - news, camera reviews, lens reviews, camera equipment guides, photography courses, competitions, photography forums

Pentax has revived plans to launch its long-awaited 645 Digital medium-format camera, four years after a mock-up was first shown.

The camera will go on display at the Photo Imaging Expo show in Tokyo later this month, said John Carlson, product marketing and support manager at Pentax USA.

He told Amateur Photographer that the 645 Digital is expected to go on sale in Japan.

However, it is unclear whether the camera will be sold in Europe.

And Carlson told us that it will not be marketed in the United States because Pentax predicted it would only sell 200 units there.

We understand that Pentax Japan has decided to aim the camera at the high-end market, so it seems unlikely it will be an affordable, enthusiast-level, model.

Last year, Pentax appeared to have scrapped development of the camera.

A press report in Japan had suggested that 'developments of the new camera body introduced on various occasions, as well as the SMC Pentax-D FA645 55mm f/2.8 will be virtually discontinued'.

Only a dummy version of the camera has been shown to journalists - paraded at numerous trade shows since it was first mooted at Tokyo's Photo Imaging Expo show in March 2005.

At the time of writing, no-one from Pentax Europe was available for comment at PMA.

$6,500 x 200 = 1.3 million. I'm no expert on the subject, but I somehow doubt that Pentax USA can leave that kind of money on the table just because they don't feel like messing with it.

645D will be offered everywhere...

645D will be offered everywhere. It will cost $5,000. It will have an array of newly designed lenses all made in Japan.

This will be a great year for Hoya and for all of us, all the eager buyers of the yet to be released $5,000 to $6,500 price target 645D and its numerous newly designed & optimized for digital lenses. No chromatic aberations, no vignetting, no aperture ring, no problem.

I agree it makes perfect sense that John Carlson of Pentax USA hasn't got ANY CLUE at all what Pentax USA is doing compared to us, the eager fans & pentaxians...

His interview quoted above should be ignored.

That is a Pentax rep in my book and he probably know less about the digital 645, particularly last spring, than we do.....

Well, I had to read the original text to understand what you mean. The translation may induce a different opinion.

the translation doesn't work

Hasselblad and PhaseOne are running after pixels , screen and batteries are better on a cell phone and the price is indecent (I don't know if indecent works in English here)

I just happened to check his blog last night for the first time in a while and noticed he hasn't posted anything since November. Very odd. Seems like he would have wanted to comment on DPR calling the K-x the best low light APS-C DSLR.
