OK, so much about the body.

If this camera is to succeed it needs a full range of lenses readily available from day 1! So do we expect Pentax to restart the 645 FA lens assembly line? Even then we will also need something wider than 35mm given the cropped sensor - if it is cropped that is.

If you think about the new DFA100 and how it pretty much appeared out of nowhere, it's quite possible that Hoya has been creating (or updating) 645 lenses for the launch later this year. I'm guessing there'll be a two lens kit available at launch and several more lenses available shortly after.

I thought I read somewhere that 645D was not being released in the U.S. market?

Is it theoretically possible to use a (35mm) FA or DA lens on a 645D in the same way one can use a Nikkor DX lens on a Nikon FX body?

In the recently discussed interview here, it was said that they'll release several new lenses.

No, the 645 mount is completely different, larger and with longer regiustration distance than the K-mount.

The only analogy possible would be, if Pentax later would produce a FF camera with 645mount and FF lenses. Then, those 135format-645 mount lenses would mount on a 645D just like Nikkor DX lenses on a Nikon FF.

Two rumors from the world of Pentax: Pentax is expected to release an EVIL camera this year that will look exactly like the Samsung NX10.

PS Job

Pentax rumor #2: The medium format Pentax 645D will be released in March 2010 and the price is expected to be US$ 6,500.

645D is more than a rumor... it's THE rumor and has been going on for quite some years....

However, I thought Pentax indicated that they would indeed release this camera by the en of the 1rst quarter, at least in some parts of the world so, it's not a rumor anymore AFAIK.

If Pentax was to produce in addition an EVIL camera, one would really have to wonder what ever happened to the argument that was repeatedly served to FF wanters over Pentax being small and not able to produce different lens lines at the same time.

They would have to produce DA, D-FA for FF (since they apparently haven't completely switched that off), D-FA for 645 and µDA (tentative name...) for µAPS-C... that's 4 different lines in my book...

Furthermore, while D-FA (FF and 645) and DA can all be used on Pentax DSLRs, µDA would not and chances are that D-FA would be of very limited (no pun intended) proctical use on µAPS-C because they would be too slow to focus by CD-AF even if Pentax could manage to bring an AF adapter for them which is unlikely, thanks to the coexistence of screw-driven AF and SDM.

All in all, 645D seems like a done deal but will be restricted to pros and very wealthy amateurs and FF would be easier and cheaper to deal with than µAPS-C if Pentax wanted to diversify their offer.

There was a super-wide for it on the roadmap. I guess it would be released along with the camera....

The 645D is certain, the only question is how widely it will be distributed and what the price will be. The only way I see Pentax coming out with an EVIL camera is they basically rebadge someone else's camera and lenses.

The 55mm, the wider than 35mm and a zoom perhaps?

Your conversion rate is wrong, 1MYen is $10800.

My thought exactly.

$ 6,456.45 exactly, plus shipping.

I don't for a second believe Pentax will sell rebranded NX10s.

if the price of the 645D is truly $6500, then we should probably see an appreciation of prices of old 645 lenses and increased demand
