I wouldn't expect more inside these cameras than 1/2.3 sensors.
If it's 1/2.3, it has less wide angle range than other recent Pentax 1/2.3 cameras (they start at 4.9 mm, while this camera starts at 5.1 mm).

Looking good, which will hopefully translate itself into selling well.

It will be interesting to see if they can take decent pictures as well. That hasn't been one of the strengths of Pentax compacts in recent times.

As far as I know, the I-10 looks far better than that smug shot posted above, that's all I can tell I guess ...

And there are some other P&S cameras coming out soon too, including a W90 which is also very interesting

Trust me. It looks, feels and acts NOTHING like the Sony. Look for another extremely cool feature on this camera which has been absent from the very small Optios for some time.

And as far as having a small sensor, it wouldn't be that far from being a 110mm full frame sensor All it needs are interchangeable lenses!

Good point. Maybe manufacturers can't overprice them as much as they can with most crappy P&S.

With the focal length of the L10 starting at 5.1mm, that would correspond to about 28mm FOV with a 1/2.3 sensor.

Something bigger like an LX3-esque 1/1.63 would make the FOV something closer to 23mm at the wide angle. That doesn't seem too likely. I'm afraid it will look cool but be bascially another tiny sensor P&S.

Who cares if it's just another pretty face...as long as it sells and helps Pentax's bottom line. Speaking of bottom line, the last thing my bank account needs is to be tempted by another camera, so I hope that I find these new Optios completely undesirable!

Why is 1/2.33 something to be happy about and discuss? Not being sarcastic; I'm ignorant about these sensors & want to know. Me, I've been thinking about picking-up their latest weather sealed p&s actually.

The W80 is not only weather-sealed, you can dive to 5 meters with it. I've had the W10 for 3,5 years, it's great fun on the beach and in the pool. My daughter got the W80 for christmas, and it takes significantly better pictures than the W10 as long as you stay at ISO 400 or below (which is one step better than the W10, but I wish they could make it usable at ISO 800 at least).
