Yeah, it's an I, not L I think.

By the look of the camera, I guess Pentax is trying to produce something similar to the cute little 110 film camera, but this one doesn't come w/ interchangeable lens though.

The ability to fit into an Altoids tin?

Well, maybe something even cuter? Like a matching leather case or something ...

The W80 is not only weather-sealed, you can dive to 5 meters with it. I've had the W10 for 3,5 years, it's great fun on the beach and in the pool. My daughter got the W80 for christmas, and it takes significantly better pictures than the W10 as long as you stay at ISO 400 or below (which is one step better than the W10, but I wish they could make it usable at ISO 800 at least).
There might be a new W90 coming out this year with better features? Who knows, Pentax always gives us surprises

the lens is interesting.

Most high end small cameras start at near 26-24mm equivalent lenses no adays.

If the size of the sensor was 1/1.76 " ish, 1/8" it would be a 24mm equivalent with a 5.1mm lens. Infact the panasonic LX3 starts at 5.1 and its a 1/1.63 ", so it could use a similar sensor size. who knows.

But I would like a LX3 competitor. with the 5x zoom and retro look.
Cream all over!.

But if its a low end camera then GIVE me a BREAK!

These are probably not Pentax lens designs, by the way -- like the X70 (which had a lens which was verifiably not made or designed by Pentax) they are labelled "PENTAX LENS", not "smc PENTAX LENS" like certain other Optios with actual Pentax lenses. Not that it really matters.

If the W90 is one step noisier, I would be happy. But I still think W80 is one of the most interesting and useful pocketable cameras on the market.

Looks like a lower case L to me, in a slanted (not italic) version of a serif font.

A 1/1.7" -ish sensor would really be good news. If it later ends up in a water sealed body, I will get one!

It is a marketing rule to name a model always with UPPER case unless you don't want/need to sell.
If this model is to look like the A110 then its name will be I10 not L10.

Yeah, you might be right.

But I still think it'd be an I 'cause it sounds cooler and it's in line w/ the trend (many cool gadgets start w/ an I in their names, thanks to Apple)

You should tell Apple that they won't sell any iPods or iPhones! And Hyundai won't sell any cars at all any more, all their new models are follow the pattern i<some number>.

EDIT: But now that I've seen the black version, I'm convinced that it's I-10!

OK, I'll tell them. I wouldn't buy any of those anyway.

1/2.33 = pretty much the smallest and most worthless sensor size currently being used in cameras. It's fine for cell phones, but if I'm going to buy an actual camera then 1/1.7 is the absolute smallest I will consider...and even with that size (I own a Canon G10) you still have virtually no depth of field control. I think 2/3's is as small as should be used in a camera and even with that I'd still need a second camera with a larger sensor. The 4/3's sensor is about as small as you can go and still have good DOF control as well as decent high iso IQ.

Here's are two nice image sensor size diagrams:
