But I think that 5x zoom means 1/2.33" sensor.
On the swedish site, specs for the H90 are now up. Same focal length and 1/2.33" sensor. But there is no mention of "WIDE" on that body, so I still have a grain of hope that the I-10 sensor is bigger :-)

Lets hope

Meanwhile, we can be happy about that the face detection also includes cat and dog faces. The wait is over!

The 5x zoom in the I-10 and the H-90 covers a focal length similar as 28-140 on 24x36.
This is indeed wide angle. It is more common for Pentax p&s to start at 37 than 28.
And yes the I-10 has sensor stabilized SR system. The H-90 has "digital SR" (pixel track SR).

Pentax has had 28 mm for a while now. The P70 and P80 both have 4.9 mm at the wide end, corresponding to 27.5 mm. The W60 and W80 start at 5 mm, corresponding to 28 mm. If the I-10 has 5.1 mm and same sensor size as the P80, it's a step back. And some compacts, e.g. from Panasonic, start at 25 mm eq. now.

The i-10 is officially a 1/2.33:

Pentax Optio i10 looks back to Auto 110: Digital Photography Review

Blah. What a waste of a good design and Auto 110 heritage. If they wanted a digital 110 they should have at least used a 2/3's sensor.

From reading the release it appears they may have spent more time making it look like an slr than making it work like one. Though I would suppose that the true test will be in the sample pics.

Last time I heard, most (maybe all) Pentax compacts have been designed and manufactured by Taiwanese company Abico for some years. I heard this in a job interview there two years back.

This may not be well known outside the industry, but it's actually a common practice among camera brands today to subcontract manufacturing and even design to this kind of ODM/OEM contractors. You get lower price and sometimes better QC than Japanese contractors. I heard the lens of LX3 is designed by another Taiwanese company Asia Optical and manufactured in Burma.

Abico designs the lens, electronics and firmware of the cameras they produce, but not the image processors, which they mostly use off-the-shelve solutions by Zoran. Pentax is only involved in things like providing experience on tuning color reproduction. This is why these cameras are generally boring, and will continue to be so.

I don't know who actually designed the looks of these cameras, but the metallic finish of the I-10's top plates looks so cheap it got to be designed by Abico. I actually quite like the design of the H90 though, too bad it doesn't seem too interesting in other areas.

it's a 1/2.33 sensor. that alone should you an idea. honestly, I found a few 1/1.7 with very nice IQ, but still is small and limiting. I felt bad for the RICOH GR III since it cannot take full advantage of it's f1.9 f-stop. excellent IQ, but it's $600 price tag is not worth it and I would rather get SIGMA DP1s with a much bigger sensor than a micro 4/3 and 1/1.7 for a much lower pricetag. from what I had seen, it got more pop to it's images and really close to an APS-C's IQ.
