No top-compact camera in Pentax system.
Good thing too as it shows Hoya is not suicidal; the "enthusiast compact" made sense in 2003 but is now a dying breed and a miniscule market anyway. Who pays $450 for a small-sensor compact with a slow zoom lens with the current wave of $400 DSLR kits and m4/3 cameras that are barely larger than a G11 or LX3?

Anyway. A-serie has no replacement.

E90 is low price. I-10 is retro look. H90 is ???

The shelves of photo-shops are full of P&S cameras, but nothing to choose.
I have Optio S10 with 10MP@1/1.8" - good IQ for P&S camera at low ISO. Rather good AF and AF assist lamp.

Shoot it downsampled to 3 MP and chances are it will be acceptable, but 12 MP is a bad marketing joke and nothing else.
It all depends on which ISO you use. This test shot from the Pentax P70 @ISO 100 definitely has more detail than you'd get at 3MP...

It's ordinary marketing and POPS.
When ALL manufactureres try to compensate "miserable filling" of camera with face and form of camera. Put on make-up.
As for me, it's some kind of mockery of marketing department at intelligent photo-amateur. The profanation.

As one of those people that have begged for a Digital LX, if this is a their interpretation of a digital Auto 110 then I'll just stick with my film LX for now. The I-10 may look cool, so I guess it would make a nice piece of geek jewelery, but I have no desire to actually take photos with it.
Agreed

It does, barely, (invisible at normal print sizes without doubt) but that is ISO 100. At 400 it would undoubtedly look worse, with less detail than a 3MP camera. A 6MP small-sensor camera will outperform a 12MP one at any given ISO (excepting, MAYBE, base ISO, but even then the difference is slight enough to be negligible)

Downsampled to 3MP then upsampled

Downsampled to 6MP then upsampled

Original, 12 MP

I challenge anyone who doubts this to print the 12MP original image and a 6MP downsampled-then-upsampled version to A3 format or larger and try to spot the difference. There is almost no meaningful information there, and this is HALF the size of the captured data.

Putting a 12, or worse, 14 MP chip in a compact camera is a fraud. It comes with nothing but disadvantages -- slower operation, larger files, lenses performing worse because of diffraction setting in earlier, much worse ISO performance... I don't think there is one conceivable situation in which it would mean a real world advantage.

in theory, yes. But nobody makes those sensors! My daughter's new W80 probably has the same 12.1 mp sensor, and it's superior to the 6mp sensor of my 4 year old W10. I'd say one stop better at high iso. Even viewed at 100% it has less noise.

F3.5 -5.9 aperture? I'm out.

If it were F2 or F2.8 over a larger range, like the LX3 or S90, I'd think about it.

I find it most remarkable that the old Pentax logo is back on the I-10.

The last logo, as used on the K-7 and K-x:

The old logo, as on the Auto 110 and many more of the older SLR's:

The old logo, back on the I-10:

Is this a sign of the future models? I can easily see an EVIL camera with approximately the same looks as the I-10. If it follows the same outline then I'm sure they will sell shitloads of them.
I prefer the old logo to the latest.

That I-10 is one good looking camera. I am in the market for a good P&S camera. Any word when the cameras will be released? And, once the camera is released, when will it be reviewed?

Kind of looks like the Kodak Z915

I hate to say this but the Kodak Z915 already had the retro look to some extent. It has been on the market for a while. Of course, it isn't a Pentax. Check out the B&H website.

Kodak just released the Slice, which looks just like their old DISC cameras on the front:
