Still makes no sense to buy here though, you can get the 12-24 for $300 cheaper in the US.

Yeah, Pentax is like GM, they forgot to notice the exchange rate sucks sphincter lately (like for the last 3 years). I've bought ALL my Pentax gear from the US.

It all depends on the lens. The DA 15mm f/4 limited for example still comes out too expensive. The DA 21mm f/3.2 limited comes out pretty good after the rebate. I'm sure there's other examples, but those were the two I've been looking at.

The FA Limiteds are still incredibly pricey. No relief on that one.

The DA12-24, despite being a fantastic lens, is still a shocker. You'd need a 40% off rebate to make that one within reasonable terms, or make it an F2.8 lens.

What's the ongoing price for the 12-24 in Canada (after rebate)?
Curious to see how this compare to US prices.

$1258.40 CAD!!! I believe that's BEFORE rebate, so if we apply the $100 rebate, that would likely be $1158.40 CAD.
Camera Canada :: Lenses :: Pentax :: 12-24mm f4 smc ED AL IF DA Lens

This is compared to $720 USD at Amazon. So even taking into account the rebate in Canada, it's still $400+ cheaper in the US. And that's not taking into account PST and GST.

Meanwhile, our currencies are worth almost the same, the lenses are all made in the same place, and they're subject to the exact same import fees. While (most of) the rest of Canada has adjusted their pricing to account for the current exchange rate, some stubborn companies insist on ripping us off. Those companies have no right to bitch when I buy all my stuff in the US instead. I'd HAPPILY pay the PST and GST if the prices could be more reasonable over here, but they're not, so too bad.

Good grief! I think I paid just over $500 for my 12-24 from ProDigital2000, back in November 2008. I thought I was being irresponsible when I ran up my credit card buying lenses last year, but I guess in hindsight it was the right decision!

I think a lot of people who bought Pentax lenses back on 2008 and early 2009 can now look back and say: That was a good investment!

Those same people could now sell their lenses for more than they paid.

UK price (and these people are cheap compared to other Pentax dealers).
£890 which works out at $1522 CAD.

I just found a fairly good reason to consider buying Pentax equipment in Canada: the warranty here is twice as long.
