Pentax K-x price drops again: now $470 with one-lens, $574/$650 with two-lenses - 1001 Noisy Cameras

is it strange? so quick and big drop of price. K-x is just 5 month old
To make room for a third line between K-x and K-7...?

Still though, I think ultrawide zooms are pretty much pointless. I'd rather just have a 17mm f/2.8 (in full frame terms). I hardly ever used my Tokina anywhere other than 11mm's. So the zoom was just pointless bulk to me. I'd rather have an ultrawide prime and then a 24-xx zoom to go with it.
I agree. I'd like the DA12-24 or a DA*10-16 for the wider end. I think its a pity that they decided to do a limited (DA 15 ltd) on the longer side of the already avaliable DA14. I would much rather have a 12 mm prime.

Or maybe even a 13mm/f1.3 for us non-superstitious people

I'm more partial to a 13mm f3.7 limited

Seems like a logical move to me. The benefit of the K-x always was the fact that Pentax could reuse the R&D from the K-7 and the body of the K-m, so it probably didn't cost them that much to make. Also, the more they drop price of the K-x, the more they can drop the K-7 price, which would allow another model above the K-7 to be released. It all depends on what they are planning to do with these new cameras.

I'm sure they would have loved to keep the price of these cameras higher for longer, however. When they say things like [paraphrase] "profits are down due to competitive pricing in this sector" I bet this is the sort of thing they are referring to.

Why always the questions about a FF or Pro camera? Pentax needs a real good lineup from the buttom. Starting at 400 USD 600 USD 800 USD 1000 USD. When that's done make one for 1500 USD for pro's. FF is not really needed. Look at olympus!

1D IV is not full frame, so not all current "pro" cameras are full frame...but Olympus is really pushing it with their tiny viewfinders. Have you looked through one? I have. It's not very good.

The E-30 and E-3 finders are good, with the E-3's being comparable to the K-7's and the E-30's to the K-x's. It's the consumer bodies which have a dim window at the end of a long tunnel for a finder.

Olympus E-3 has the same viewfinder size as K10D. I've compared both

Resurrected, but it's interesting to see that the price prediction for the 645D was spot on the money.

Now the wonder is will the lenses be?

As for the Km-2 it might gel with the K-x successor that I am aware of (the sub K-7 model to be announced at photokina) based on what I know....

I don't usually post on rumours forums but I hope they do at least make the 20mm I couldn't care less about the zoom, but the 20 f/2 and 28mm f/2 are long overdue. I just hope they are conservative about the filter threads, (about 52~62mm diameter) but pentax usually are consistent with their prime lenses.

Olympus has abandoned their DSLR market for M4/3. It's orphaned precisely because 4/3 cannot compete when FF makes its way down the price points (as it inevitably will).

There's a Sony white paper on E-mount that indicates the NEX will eventually go FF.
