It would be kinda dissapointing if 645D's sensor is only 68% bigger than FF. That's less than the difference between APS-C and m4/3.

So, we're going to see two separate "I want full frame" debates in the Pentax community

Are you ready to buy MF camera with 60.5 MP sensor for USD/EURO 42 000?

Smaller sensor, less cost. It's easy to understand.

Please note that even P65+ Phase One still isn't 645 film format "full frame", which is 41.5 x 56 mm.
The biggest 645 system sensor is 40.4 X 53.9mm.
645D has room for future upgrade.

Pentax need to come in digital MF cameras market and consolidate success of 645D.... (I hope).

I would be surprised if the new lenses are optimized for less than the full 645 film frame, though. Future sensors will presumably be larger.

I knew all along a full frame 645 sensor is out of the question. But was hoping to see a 48x36 sensor.

I'm sure you already know this but, I'll expand on this and say that Pentax never made glass this fast for 645 or 67, and even the larger MF world, lenses as fast as these are definitely the exception rather than the rule.

Regarding FA 645 lens avaliability, well, you can buy them new in Russia and Japan, but what about the rest of us? Even second hand are hard to find, I'm still looking for a FA 645 150/2.8.
I will not buy the 645D, but I'm sure hopping that it's lauch will make buying FA 645 glass easier. I mean, they'll have to lauch some glass to go with it, right?
I wouldn't mind seeing this. Frankly, I doubt I would have bought any 645 lenses at anything close to list price. But maybe, just maybe, a little 645D excitement might liberate a few lenses from peoples bags as they swap them for new ones...but I'm not all that optimistic. I haven't seen many FA645 33-55's for sale either. I suspect new releases might go for an SDM implementation though which wouldn't AF on my 645N.

Also to offer an alternate viewpoint on the looks of the 645D...I think it looks hawt. MF gear tends to have weird proportions compared to cameras designed primarily for handholding anyway--the larger imaging area also requires larger focusing screens & pentaprisms. The photographer's hands don't get any bigger though.

it's old sensor. 39 MP and ISO50-400(800 as soft ISO) and low speed (1.4 sec for 1 capture).

I like Mamiya's idea to have a 3.6" rear LCD screen which happens to be 6x7cm. :bigsmiley:

At least Pentax should reintroduce their 67->645 adapter, so the 67 owners can use their lenses with the 645D.
