I wonder who here has a pre-production model and is testing it for them.

A quite reliable French site made speculation that the new camera would be released for the CP+ (replacing PIE)

CP+ will happen from 11 to 14 March 2010 in Japan.

With all we know about Hoya intention (release of 645D in Japan first for spring 2010) that makes much sense.

That means also to wait a month before knowing most that there is to know about the system.

Regards,
Guillaume

That would be so cool.

I don't think anytime soon. Something most people don't necessarily consider is the purchasing habits in different culture. In Japan, a customer would never dream of returning a product after they committed to purchasing it. If they order a pink and yellow camera, and they didn't like it after it arrived, they would stick with their decision. U.S. customers tend to return product for everything from real to perceived defects, to buyers remorse. That would leave Pentax or dealers with a bunch of odd colored cameras that people decided to return.

Thanks,

John

I've done the same searches comparing K7 and 645D images from google images and although i can't say 100%, but my gut feeling is it is the 645D. It doubt it's anything else. The K7 isn't a year old yet, i can't see it being FF so it just leaves the 645D.

If you look in the HTML of the announcement it tells you " Paint the Camera with a LARGE FORMAT SENSOR", Large format = Medium Format (other terms) = 645D.

There a quotation in there in Japanese.

That FA 35mm f3.5 645 has been out of production for years.

Why not see what Pentax Canada can get for you from their historical 645, 6x7 listings.

I remember buying my first K-Mount dslr in 2006, &being excited about locating new Pentax made glass, &placing inquires with local shop and being told nothing was available after they called Pentax Colorado headquarters. Even though the lenses were in current Pentax catalogue.

Deja-Vu
For Pentax gear that has to be ordered, I usually just walk into Lens and Shutter Victoria and ask for whatever the item is and give them the part number (Their catalog is dated). They phone their Pentax rep and it gets ordered. That's what I did for the 67II focusing screen, M42 adapter and my K7. I'm presuming anyone can do the same for 645 lenses (I'm not ready to go down the 645 path quite yet ).

Iwas eager to buy FA 200mm 2.8 in 2005

I was EAGER to buy FA 200mm 2.8 in 2005. Its was current, in current catalogue and not available when dealer called Pentax USA. I actually bugged three salespeople at three local stores and got same reply. I asked about a couple other current lenses and got no where. I own those Pentax dealer catalogues now, bought them when pro shop went under, so I well aware what Pentax listed in 2005.

Thats great you've got items you can still order in Canada.

I'll guess its whats left of 645 and 6x7 in inventory, & not being replenished.

There are some holy grail type items in 645 System, if you know what they are you should try to order them from Pentax Canada. I won't list them cause I'm looking for them too.

Seriously? I don't personally care at all about medium-format, but: is the above how we do things around here?

OK fine here's a clue

OK fine here's a clue

It's 645 items Canon owners have driven the price up on since its so easy to adapt 645 and 6x7 mount items to eos mount.

Show me a link to people using Pentax 645 and 6x7 lenses on Canon DSLRs. BTW I use my Pentax 6x7 lenses on my Pentax DSLRs and they also are AF with my Pentax AF adapter.

Wow. I'll eat my hat now
That would really shake up the studio/landscape market for $6500...it's effectively a throw away body so you don't need to swap digital backs when you upgrade...

Now, which old 645 lenses are useful for it? ;-)

Pentax 6x7 launched when ? I think 1969

I hate to think that Me,
a multibrand loving gear owner
is one of few pentaxians who know:

The Holy Grail Pentax made gear in larger formats.

Everyone says how GREAT Pentax medium format is......
yet most don't know why ???

Thats just weird that people don't know why
645 and 6x7 is so cool

I'm not sharing certain info cause I keep passing of certain lenses I want
to buy before the price spikes higher.
I got this thing about new in the box and certain items
I've seen locally are used, quite used.
If already owned what I am hunting down I'd spill the beans.

And who else gave you all the hot tip B&H medium format glass tip ???

New in the box & Made in Japan , how cool was that ???

That linky was a HOT TIP !!!

You're Welcome !!!
