Well I can say with 100% certainty that the 645D wont be a Japan only market product

Just got confirmation this morning from the top. So it's coming!

Pentax Canada lists all of the 645 FA lenses....of course it doesn't help much as they don't have a web store. They can probably order it in though (they just brought in a new focus screen for my 67II without any problem)....

Its not like the 645n was gorgeous or anything.

Forget about FF... medium format is the next best thing! This is clearly a 645D!
Right, why would anyone want a FF Pentax DSLR like the Canon 5D MKII for $2,500 that takes K mount lenses when you could get the MF 645D for $9,500 that does not work with the 24 million FF K mount lenses out there.

How about a Canon MKxxx that takes FD lenses? That would be one bitchin ride. What about all those people out there that have FA 645 glass already?

Sorry but what you've written is too condescending and insulting to say the least.
As a moderator I would have expected better.

Given the expected high price point and small pool of potential users, it makes sense for Pentax to release it to the Japanese market first.

It wasn't meant to be condescending or insulting Denis. I've seen it mentioned several times, most recently when there was a discussion about why Pentax wasn't selling all the colours of the Kx elsewhere other than Japan. My understanding is that culturally the Japanese consumer doesn't usually suffer from buyers remorse and return a product whereas over here in the US it happens a lot and so the stores and manufacturers are left with a lot of new products which can't be sold as new.

The guinea pig part of my comment was based on the reality that the consumer is the guinea pig these days. A product is shipped out for sale and problems are identified when the consumer experiences failure.

That would be so cool.

I don't think anytime soon. Something most people don't necessarily consider is the purchasing habits in different culture. In Japan, a customer would never dream of returning a product after they committed to purchasing it. If they order a pink and yellow camera, and they didn't like it after it arrived, they would stick with their decision. U.S. customers tend to return product for everything from real to perceived defects, to buyers remorse. That would leave Pentax or dealers with a bunch of odd colored cameras that people decided to return.

Thanks,

John

There are at least 10x more people with FF K mount lenses that would buy a $2,500 FF Pentax DSLR than would buy a $9,500 645D to use with FA 645 glass.

Pentax USA only has 6x7 teleconverter, nothing else for 645 or 6X7

That FA 35mm f3.5 645 has been out of production for years.

Why not see what Pentax Canada can get for you from their historical 645, 6x7 listings.

I remember buying my first K-Mount dslr in 2006, &being excited about locating new Pentax made glass, &placing inquires with local shop and being told nothing was available after they called Pentax Colorado headquarters. Even though the lenses were in current Pentax catalogue.

Deja-Vu

pardon? Was that supposed to make sense?

The old 645 was a film camera, there was no sensor (CMOS, CCD or otherwise)

(
My friend from USA said that it's not very hard to find FA645 in even small photo shops. But the situation was MUCH better 1-2 year ago.
