From the specs, almost looks like a K-7

SAFOX IX+ (K-7: SAFOX VIII+) means that there wasn't a hidden other SAFOX in between in the works. Or at least, that they cared not to disclose it.

Sensor is Kodak, so it is KAF-40000 indeed.

Dynamic range is from the Kodak spec sheet (69.3 dB), which is slightly better than K-x when print-normalized (12.7 EV in DxO's terms if data is given correctly).

No AA filter. This means that images from the Pentax 645D and Leica S2 will be almost indistinguishable, if both focussed correctly and taken with an excellent lens.

Given the launch price (¥850,000) I would say that the European launch price must be 6,456.45 € exactly

Damn. 40MP and no AA. That's a lot of detail!

I've been really critical of Pentax for releasing a MF camera before catering to those of us that want a full frame K7, but I have to admit, the 645D is truly lust worthy...I sure hope it works out for them. At $10,000 it should certainly smoke that latest $22,000 Mamiya.

It would be nice if they could get DPR to compare it to a D3X and a Canon 1Ds for studio and landscape work.

I hope it takes SDXC cards like many cameras coming out now.

No new info in my blog post for those who have followed the details here, but nonetheless I'm doing my bit to promote the cause with Pentax 645 Digital No Myth - It's Here!

Woohoo! See also: Yawn.

The lack of support for my existing lenses really doesn't matter because at I'm not nearly yuppie enough to drop the 10g on the body. Fortunately they've priced the camera so out of anything resembling my range that it wont even be a consideration.

Worry not, I'll be looking for that full frame Pentax K-q next year, you know, the one that might (*might*) just make it into my price range?

Er, it's half the price of the Mamiya or Hasselblad that offer 40MP. You were expecting to find one free in your cracker jacks or something?

As a starving artist I cannot afford one. But in a couple of years once I've saved and find one for half the price again on the used market... we shall see!

Is it me, or did nearly all the FA 645 lenses on KEH disappear, and the prices of the remaining lenses go up?

Also interesting that most of the technology being used is already found in the K-7. For example, the use of a D-LI90 battery, and the rear monitor. I hope some of the new stuff works its way down to the K-7's eventual successor, like the dual SD card slots.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case. Now that the 645D is officially announced, I bet prices of 645 lenses on eBay will skyrocket.

.

Expect to see those lenses that just flew of the KEH shelves to hit ebay in the coming days... some reseller types are probably going to make a little profit there.

Price is Class Leading, and a Strong Signal

A quality looking Medium Format camera, both visually and in specs. In the range of more professionals than people might expect. Great move.

I'm sure Pentax sorted it out well since the development stage was so long. In my opinion this is a huge signal to the photography marketplace as well as a practical price and product. Both at the same time.

I'm very pleased to see this happen with Pentax officially. Saw many specifications similar to the K7 (what a camera as well).
