K-x and K-7 selling well in Sweden

Was just ordering some stuff over the web looking through my favorite Swedish web photo retailers. Cyberphoto (CyberPhoto - Digitalkameror, videokameror och fototillbehör. Personlig service på nätet!) is one of the bigger actors in the Swedish market. They have an updated list of the most sold camera models in the last month. Never seen a Pentax there before.
Now they all of a suddenly occupy both the 3rd and 8th positions. And Pentax is the only brand breaking the Canikon dominance (no Sony or Olympus to be seen on this list). They must be doing something right!

I think they are doing well in Finland too. Finnish gadgets magazine Mikrobitti was reviewing D300s and in final words they commented that if you are considering D300s only Pentax K-7 and canon Eos7d makes choosing nikon difficult.

It's not much but Pentax hardly gets mentioned in magazines in Finland

Wen I was in the store a few weeks ago I asked the girl how the K-x was doing (they are one of the not-that-many authorized Pentax dealers here in Belgium) and she answered: reasonably well...until now we have sold 3 of them... they did not take them in stock however.

I was surprised (and a bit disappointed) to hear that. But I'm glad they are doing better in Sweden.

Thanks, I never noticed that Cyberphoto had this overview. If it is an indication of the Nordic/Scandinavian market, then it is very good.
From Denmark, I buy from Cyberphoto as well. They have a good volume of offerings.
And they got lots of different K7 and Kx packages, so one can choose what suits best

The latest Swedish MediaMarkt (huge European consumer electronics chain) advertisement newsletter had a big ad for the K-x/18-55 bundle as their sole SLR inclusion. This is the first time I've seen them pushing anything non-CaNikon. Sure, they've carried Pentax for a long time but if you ask the sales staff what to get, or look at the shelves or lens selection it's 90% Canon and Nikon. Maybe that's about to change!

With economy recovering and expenses being watched, perhaps consumers are shifting their priority into something that offers "more value" for the money, rather than blindly follows the brand?

Unfortunately here in North America, Pentax brand awareness is imo at and all time low compared to the rest of the world. It's a huge task for Pentax USA and Canada to rebuild the image but with the intro of the Kx for the masses and the K7 for the hardcore user the awareness is gaining some wings.

It is important to understand that the different K-x colour options are listed as separate items, so the K-x at number 8 or 9 position is for the black version only, with the kit lens. The red, white and blue versions are not listed together with the black. This means that the K-x with kit lens is actually selling much better than what can be seen in the list...
