think its generally accepted that at long focal lengths the sensor shift shake reduction cant cope where lens stablisation can - it also stablises the viewfinder too which can be useful

and you'd be paying for it anyway all the gubbins is still in the lens wether you can use it or not - look at the 150-500 exactly same lens as you get in canon or nikon mount except differet mount and is the same price dispite not being bale to use the shake reduction

i would definatly like to have had the shake reduction on my 150-500 - though i admit tht alone wouldn't be enough for me to consider a replacement but combined with the wider focal range might be tempting - assuming that its as sharp as the 150-500 that is - so will wait for people to review it and see if its any good or not

I was disappointed to read elsewhere that a Sigma 180 mm macro lens with Pentax mount was discountinued (last year, I think) while the lens remained in production with other mounts.
But who told you that?
It's still listed as available in Pentax mount on Sigma Japan and Sigma UK websites. Easily available brand new in UK (yes, Pentax mount).
The price dropped quite a bit recently, so maybe they will upgrade it soon, but I've never heard about it being discontinued...

8mm-16mm is pretty crazy. I mean, my widest lens is the 15mm, and on this new Sigma that's the telephoto end of the zoom. I would love to have a lens that wide, but I might rather have the 10mm-20mm zoom with the fixed 3.5 aperture.

Prices

I'm not sure there will be the cheap alternatives people are hoping they will be. Look at the new 24-70mm.

On the DPR site, someone noted that the new Sigma lenses are not being issued in an Olympus mount. Is it more difficulty for them to build an Olympus mount or is it a return on investment issue - e.g. not enough market?

Good point, hadn't given that a thought.

I would agree. Sigma has some cheap lenses, but most of these lenses look like they are going to be upper end lenses. Probably sell for a couple of hundred less than comparable Canon/Nikon lenses. Certainly won't see any 300 dollar Samyang lens here.

I'm guessing the new 70-200 HSM OS willl be around 950-1100 while the 17-50 HSM OS will be around 625-765. Just taking a guess based on the prices of current Sigma similar models compared to the quality of these new HSM OS versions.

Around 700-900, if it is any good at all. Some people think around 1000, but I think Sigma will stay below that point.

Hope Sigma's QC is good this time.
Also hope got no BF/FF issues that have occurred with some of the fast lenses in Sigma's current lineup.

Just out of curiosity Ben, but what would you use the 8-16 for? Wouldn't you be concerned about the potential for distortion especially towards the 8mm end?
