It's not optically stabilised. My guess would be $650-800. Any higher than that and it will be a tough sell for Pentaxians (and Canikonians for that matter). Priced around $700 I can see many Pentaxians reaching out for one, as well as Canon shooters willing to spend a bit more than their 85mm f/1.8 costs in order to gain 2/3 stop.

This is all assuming the IQ is as good as the Sigma 105mm f/2.8.

So here's a question for anyone out there who's tried a "stabilized" Sigma lens on a Pentax with sensor stabilization built-in: Is there any way to turn off the lens's stabilization??

Reason I ask is:

1) On the K7, the sensor stabilization is disabled when you choose Mirror-up or Exposure bracketing or remote trigger or HDR, undoubtedly because it assumes you're using a tripod. Personally I find that assumption extremely frustrating, but presumably Pentax has found that the sensor stabilization can actually *introduce* motion blur. Thus, it's probably fair to assume that Sigma's in-lens stabilization would have the same unfortunate side-effect, and you'd need to turn it off when using a tripod.

2) The lens has no way to know whether you have a 2X teleconverter on there, which certainly would affect the effective focal length and thus the amount of stabilization needed. So that's another reason it might be beneficial to be able to turn off the lens's stabilzation.

3) If you switch lenses often, it would be a pain to have to remember to turn off Pentax's sensor stabilization every time you mount a Sigma lens with in-lens stabilization. (I'm assuming that it would be a blurry disaster to keep BOTH stabilization systems enabled. Sigma says vaguely, "For Sony and Pentax mount, the built-in OS function of this lens can be used even if the camera body is equipped with an image sensor shift anti-shake system."

So, to me, the Sigma in-lens stabilization sounds like a royal pain in the butt.

If their 85/1.4 is anything like their 50/1.4, I'm in, even probably at around $900

The good thing for pentaxians is that Sigma has to think about other brands like Canon and Nikon, and adjust the price according to their lens lineup, and this can only end up good for us. But, maybe I am wrong, because Sigma 50mm f1.4 is a good example that low price is not always Sigma's policy.
Anyhow, if the quality of 85mm f1.4 is at 50mm f1.4 level, then we finally got wide aperture AF prime (I don't know why Pentax has no f1.4 or brighter lens in current lineup-exception is 55mm f1.4). Ok, it should cost a bit more, but then it will be worth it. If, on the other hand, IQ will be lower than 50mm f1.4, then we can hope for lower price

I don't know that this helps at all. Have you looked at the prices of the fast 85's for Nikon and Canon? Canon doesn't make an 85mm f1.4, but they do make an f1.2 L lens and it is close to 2000 dollars. Nikon's 85mm f1.4 is at 1300 dollars. Sigma clearly sees an opening to make a little profit. I certainly think this lens will not be in my price range.

Good point, Rondec. Well, I still hope for a reasonable price (500-700USD) for 85mm f1.4. As Miserere pointed out before, f1.4 is just a bit faster than Canon's f1.8 (which is btw very sharp and useful straight from f1.8), and I hope that new Sigma will try to compete with this lens, not with L f1.2 and Nikon's f1.4. We have to wait and see how good new Sigma 85mm actualy is, and hope that it is as good as 50 f1.4 and cheap as Canon's 85mm f1.8.

I just purchased the Sigma APO 70-200mm EX DG HSM II Macro last Friday and now they go and bring out a new updated model. If I new they were going to do that I would have waited to see what it was like. Oh well, happy with this one anyway.
May have to update the 17-70mm f2.8-4.5 to the 17-50mm f2.8 OS HSM though, the 17-70 is a bit slow and I'm really liking the HSM on the 70-200.

Definitely will be watching closely to see the price of the 85mm lens! This seems REALLY appealing!!! Finally, another fast lens option.

Regarding the Sigma 8-16 ... this is, from what I read in reviews, designed specifically for APS-C format.
It's too bad there isn't a version which would be FF and could be used on APS-C cameras as well, much like we have with some of the best FA and FA* lenses.
However, it is a very tempting, and bad for my LBA, choice to fill my missing focal lengths since I sold my Sigma 10-20 a while back.

Same goes for the Pentax DA*10-16/4 which should soon be available: very tempting.

The Sigma 12-24 is the most extreme UWA afaik. A FF zoom starting from 8mm would not be possible I think.

The DA* 10-16 was from a magazine dream setup I think. Looked reliable but wasn't.

The 8-16mm is the APS-C version of the 12-24mm FF version.
