About the focusing screen: Is the mention of "curved" lines a translation error or something? I'm no mathematician, but I'm looking at that golden section grid and I'm farily confident all those lines are straight. What gives?

I do believe it's a typo. They probably meant to say "carved" as in "etched."

I'd love to see more silver lenses. Then people could see you had a Pentax at a distance like before and like Canon owners have their white lenses. It's basically good advertisement.

The silver model, conversely, will look worse with the black lenses. Now almost all the lenses are black. So this accessorizing lust is for little kids! Who are then forced to sport their only one or two silver lenses wherever they go.

The few hundred bucks are better spent on a good black lens.

re: the focusing screen: The little circles at the intersections of the thirds is completely unnecessary/unhelpful IMHO.

Could this limited edition silver K-7 merely be a trial balloon for the next camera?

Remember that the K2000/Km was available in a limited edition stormtrooper-white and now the K-x is available in white as a standard option.

If history is any guide, the K-7 is probably approaching the end of its prodcution life. It will probably go out of production in a couple of months, to make way for whatever is to follow, although it will remain in the distribution pipeline for quite a while. I don't know how much the silver K-7 affects the assembly-line or parts procurement, but Pentax may not have wanted to make much of an investment for a camera that they probably won't be making three or four months from now.

I find it interesting that the silver K-7 will receive the latest firmware at the factory. They did the same thing with the K10D Grand Prix edition. It received version 1.30, while all production "ordinary" K10D's received version 1.0. If they are going to go to the trouble of burning the internal ROM with the new firmware version, why continue the original firmware for the normal version of the camera.

Perhaps the silver K-7's will, in fact, be the last 1,000 off the line. That might explain both the limited run and the firmware update. Then again, maybe not.

The beauty of film is that the cameras would not become obsolete faster than the most frugal holdouts see their price point reached here. We have a thread for the scrooges watching the price -- note the $899 K7 deal of the day on Amazon today! -- and now this. Makes me want to go back to film and the CoolScan with SilverFast. Otherwise, the photography is replaced by online price shopping and feverish watching of the price news, with bells and whistle specials of the day!

Apart from looking cool, the K-7 limited signifies something else.

K10D GP edition was in a way a signal that the K20D was not far away.
The K20D titanium edition was available not too far from the K-7
The K-7 limited edition signifies what?

Maybee nothing.
I think this too is an indication...

... maybe perhaps at the end of this year well will see an announcement of a K8? since the K10D/K20D line has ended...

That for Pentax, innovation means changing the color of the body?

Thank you
