Hoya Corporation releses new Limited Edition K-7 in Silver

HOYA CORPORATION PENTAX Imaging Systems Division is pleased to announce the launch of the PENTAX K-7 Limited Silver digital SLR camera. To be marketed in a limited quantity of 1,000 sets, this special-edition model comes with several features that distinguish it from the original black-colored PENTAX K-7 (launched in summer 2009), including a silver-colored body and a “golden section ratio” focusing screen.

Major Features of PENTAX K-7 Limited Silver

1. In response to the enthusiastic requests from many devoted PENTAX lovers, the camera body is finished in silver. It is identical with the color of the high-performance FA Limited interchangeable lens series, a family of lenses designed for the highest level of image description. Because of this, the K-7 Limited Silver is the perfect stylistic match for any FA Limited-series lens. Set in lower area of the camera body, the SR (Shake Reduction) lettering is in a special gold color that stands out proudly against the subdued black-colored, leather-like finish.
2. The K-7 Limited Silver comes equipped with an exclusive “golden section ratio” focusing screen. Since the guiding lines and points are curved on the screen, the photographer can swiftly and effortlessly compose a perfectly balanced image in keeping with this classic design concept.
3. The LCD monitor on the camera’s back panel is protected with a reinforced glass plate, which is highly shock- and scratch-resistant. This protective plate makes the K-7 Limited Silver even more durable and dependable than the original K-7, especially under demanding shooting conditions. Thanks to this extra protection, the photographer can concentrate on picture-taking in challenging outdoor assignments.
4. The camera firmware has been upgraded to the latest version (Ver. 1.03) to make the camera’s lens compensation function operable with the FA Limited-series lenses.
5. The latest version (Ver. 4.10) of the PENTAX Digital Camera Utility 4 image processing software is included in the camera package.

OK, I want one.

On a side note, I wonder if they will sell the focusing screen separately for installation in existing K-7s. That would be cool.

Also makes me wonder if they will release DA Limiteds in silver colors for it...although since it is a very limited run I doubt it.

How Much?

Me wants bad. I wonder how much this will cost. If it's a decent price, I'm all over it.

Not quite the same... silver polycarbonate plastic vs silver on magnesium is quite different. Plus the lettering of Pentax is in black on the K-7, like cameras from the past. Retro cool.

Wow. That is VERY nice. It's a shame that it's a limited production run. I think that they could sell a ton of these. Some of us prefer our metal-clad cameras in silver!

Am I the only one who noticed that this isn't the latest version of DCU4? Apparently DCU 4.11 isn't compatible with silver magnesium...

As sweet as that camera looks, I think I still prefer my black one. If it had come out in silver first, and then a black limited edition later, I bet everyone would be just as gaga over a black one.

edit: One thing I do love about that camera is its uncanny resemblance to my 1969 Spotmatic. The silver and black match that classic look almost perfectly.

I love the look because its reminiscent of another time. I added a black leather sections to my E-P1 for this reason.
