I think it was an excellent interview. It cleared things up a bit about Pentax and Hoya's relationship. I for one was thinking Pentax would be sold off.
I also like what I hear about Pentax's business plan....both profitability and the fact that new competitive products will be coming out more often then before.
I am also happy to have my understanding of the success in sales of the new Pentax KX confirmed, although I have read about this from other sources.
I like the analogy of Pentax to Apple and the focus that comparison invites.
I now have a cleared picture of the Samsung- Pentax and Hoya- Pentax relationships, which has been one that I needed clarity.
It's also a good thing to read about the Hoya need to ensure all divisions are successful and that they seem willing to provide the support for this to happen and that it is happening already in a tight economy.
All in all a worthwhile article.
I don't know if its naivety or you not being used with corporate bullshit. But those statements clearly means nothing new. There is no change in the present discourse of Hoya. "Pentax has to be profitable", that's the motto they have been saying from the start, nothing new here, and nothing really surprising.
You may have had the wrong picture with all those "Pentax is doomed" threads, but the information back then was exactly the same as in this interview. And it says nothing about how Hoya considers the future of Pentax camera division.
Anyway I wouldn't expect any particular revelation from Ned Bummel. US is not on the priority list of Pentax, and I doubt that he is the repository of much confidential information (at least until commercialisation is to be organized)
- Did we learn anthing about the name of Pentax partners ? (appart from Samsung)
- If Pentax keeps loosing money (they're almost even at the moment), under which delay will Hoya take a decision ? And what decision ?
- Will Pentax continue to integrate Samsung sensors ?
- What about the upcoming Pentax 645D ?
- Any news about lens roadmap ?
- What about the future body lineup ? How many bodies, which calendar ?
And the ultimate Pentax forum troll: - Will Pentax release a FF camera and when ?
Clearly, it is not in the politics of Hoya/Pentax to reveal those informations. So I'm not surprised of not having it. I think you are over interpreting what Ned said regarding the status Pentax within Hoya.
