Or, they could also drop the K-x price - to 300 or so - that would create some space for the third model... But who would buy anything else than K-x then

What people (me) actually want is the 12.3 MP sensor

That's fine, but I've also read (in other thread on this forum) about WR, two dials, top lcd, pentaprism, AF assist lamp... Sound a bit like K-7, doesn't it

Right, but if Olympus can have 7 (!) current DSLR models and Sony 8 (!!) then there should still be quite a bit of room between the entry level and the top of the line. What's probably going to be missing is stuff like the faster FPS, the magnesium alloy body, 1/8000 shutter speed, 77-segment metering, etc.

According to some info published a few weeks ago by the Pentaxeros.com (spanish Pentax forum) administrator, there will be TWO new DSLRs this year to be released at Photokina. One between K-X and K-7 and another one ABOVE K-7. And judging by the way he talked about this last camera, it could be a full frame camera.

Personally I think it will be a model BELOW the K-x.

Price wise the K-x is not an entry level camera and they need something that will tempt P&S shooters.
K-x is an entry camera. Currently, in my store, at 499, it's almost as cheap as the Nikon D3000 (439) or Canon EOS1000 (459) and with way better specs.

K-x starter kit is slightly less than a D3000 kit. For a while the K-x 18-55 + 50-200 kit was only $30 more than a D3000 18-55 kit, but the K-x has gone back up a little.

XSi kit is about the same price as the D3000 too.

(These are all B&H prices.)

So the K-x is already priced below the Canikon entrylevel units...

Quoting a dpreview forum post:

Pentax are working on a new model above the K-x and below the K-7. Technical specification, price and market release is as yet unknown.
Rumoured model name is K-5.
(information comes from sales representative from swedish Pentax distributor).

An image about a camera with K-x technology inside a K200D influenced design - with weather sealing and top LCD - has been floating around on the 'net... If this is true, then what we get is basically a K-x with weather sealing, illuminated AF points in viewfinder (note Mr Ned B, Pentax US, speaking in a recent interview about that Pentax understands this is important for customers), separate RAW-button and optical preview around the shutter release, and most probably a socket for a cable remote. Maybe even mic input for the video?
Personally, I would welcome a true pentaprism viewfinder!

I would guess ready for release at the Photokina show in September, but that feels a bit late and it seems like prototypes are field testing right now since the distributors has got information about Pentax working on this camera, so it can't be that far away.

The same magazine that you posted on here a while back that had those new DA*20mm and 28mm lenses? Didn't we all agree that that was pure speculation? I believe either photorumors.com or krumors.com showed that the mag has been way off before.

If you also don't think there will be a model between the K-x and K-7, then why would you think that a new DSLR that should come out this year will be an upgrade to the K-x? The K-7 was released first and the K-x is quite a camera compared to other companies' lowest models.

Here in the UK :

Canon 1000D Body : 295
Nikon D3000 Body : 315
Pentax K-x Body : 470

These are all best prices off camera comparison site.

I will therefore rephrase mt statement ... The K-x is not entry level in the UK and Pentax needs something in the 300 price bracket (like the K-m) for the P&S users.

And focus adjustment.

Hmmm, beginning to sound like the K-7 again.

If true, a good second camera body option

I need to buy a second camera this year for a wedding I'm shooting in October (and it'd be handy to have a second camera body in general). To be honest, I'd be OK with either this rumored "K-x Super" or a body that is higher than the k-7. I'm just looking for a second body that will give me a little bit more flexibility than two K-7s would. If this camera doesn't materialize, I might just opt for a k-x.

I think releasing a mid specced body sometime this summer would be a good move for Pentax/Hoya. It would give them a little momentum to keep them going while they work on whatever they want to do for their new flagship camera whenever that comes out.
