SuperCCD EXR

I was under the impression that the SuperCCD EXR sensor dropped to 6Mpx from 12Mpx and took two images, then combined them for high dynamic range which slowed down the FPS quite a bit. I don't see a slow camera selling well no matter how high the DR.

Just give me better AF on the next Pentax for BIF photography so i can sell my Nikon gear which I use only for that type of photography.

If between K7 and Kx

If it will be between K7 and Kx, and if we use our practical thinking and not wishful thinking, and taking into account that this body must compete with something like nikon d90, then it will be something like this (optimistic scenario):
- sensor from K-x
- viewfinder/pentaprism from k10/k20
- stainless steel chassis with plastic body like k10/k20
- metering system/auto-focus system from k7 (77 segment/SAFOX VIII+)
- WB system from k20/Kx, but may be from K7 (with additional sensor)
- weather sealed
- fps and max shutter from Kx
- upper LCD
- two wheels
- back LCD 3 inches 920k dots
- full manual video but without possibility to attach microphone
- all functions from Kx
- some functions from K7
- new body design in size approx. K7
- possibility attach additional battery grip
- full manual video
- price around 900-1000$

Of course that body can eat some K7 sales, but I think K7 will be replaced in some months after this new K5 and K7II will have new AF system, new sensor, full HD fully manual video and price around 1500$

And pessimistic scenario:
- sensor from K-x
- viewfinder/pentamirror from k100/k200
- stainless steel chassis with plastic body like k100/k200
- metering system/auto-focus system from k20 (16 segment/SAFOX VIII)
- WB system from k20/Kx
- weather sealed
- fps and max shutter from Kx
- upper LCD
- one wheel
- back LCD from Kx
- video from Kx or K7 without possibility to attach microphone
- all functions from Kx
- no functions from K7 exept if here mentioned
- new body design in size approx. K7
- possibility attach additional battery grip
- price around 800-900$

Too many fantasies...

It will be K-x concept with weather-sealing, top LCD and AF points in VF. And it's ALLLLLL. and......... + just some features from NEW K-7's replacement and old K-7.

Would be nice if [SuperCCD EXR] scales to APS sized sensors
I've heard that it doesn't; that it becomes almost meaningless with pixels that large.

There is room for the K-5 in-between today's K-x and tomorrows K-7 / the K-7 replacement model. K-5 will be released first, perhaps this summer, then the K-7 update or replacement will make it's debut at the Photokina show. So we have three DSLR lineup - K-x as entry level, K-5 as upper class entry level/advanced, and the upgraded K-7/replacement as semi pro DSLR. I see no problem with that.

As for 24x36, only speculations. Not this year. Not yet.
Samsung may be interrested, they are working on a 24x36, but Samsung are focusing (!) on their micro APS-C this year. Next year I believe Samsung will release a 24x36 GX-model with K-mount. Perhaps showing an early prototype at Photokina with market release at PMA show 2011.

Pentax can't go alone with 24x36, they don't have enough money and resources to support a digital 24x36 system with lenses. They need Samsung!

Pentax also need Samsung for micro APS-C - Samsung has the lens mount.
But I doubt Samsung is interresed in helping out...

A compact body with pentaprism and AA batteries is something I'm still waiting for.

Just like to point out not all of us want a K-7 with the Kx's sensor...... infact that would be a minus to me.

If this were to become reality, The k200d body with K-x internals (safe of focuspoints) is what I'd put my money on. It's compatible with an already existing grip, and none of it really needs to be designed from scratch. And, really, that'd be a great camera.
